Dave Choiniere Obituary

David Henry Choiniere

David Henry Choiniere age 83, of Plover died August 4, 2012 of lung cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover. Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:15 AM Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Shuda Funeral Service is assisting the family.

David was born to Eugene and Elsie (Ravonet) Choiniere in Marathon City on October 7, 1928. The family consisted of Beatrice, David, Edmund, Kenneth, and Rosemary. Mrs. Rosemary Silva is the lone survivor, currently living in Phoenix, AZ.

Dave went to Walnut High School in Walnut, IL. He was friendly, curious, loved people and school, and played a "mean" game of football. He worked in a pork meat packing plant. Later on he worked for ANSCO (a photographic development company) in Chicago, IL. He always had a special love of photography and children all during his lifetime. He decided to become a counselor to kids at the Chicago Boys and Girls Club.

During World War II, Dave developed special training films for the military. After the war, Dave went to visit his good friend, Frank Richel, who was "seeing" his sister Rosemary, in Kickapoo, IL. Dave met the girl of his dreams, Mary Ann Schmitt, and married her in Kickapoo in 1950. They had two sons: Jacques in 1955 and Eugene in 1966.

In 1957 the family moved to Plover, WI so that Dave could manage the Vivid View Photographic Specialty Company. Plover kept Dave very busy! He was a charter member of the Plover/Whiting Lions, and ran the Golden Sands Parade for seventeen years. He was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 205 for twenty-nine years earning the Silver Beaver Award. Dave moved the troop out of the town hall to a woodsy area where all the scouts could learn and practice for their badges. Dave helped the scout troop for another ten years.

Dave was a school bus driver who often drove several generations of families; drove a rural route for the Post Office; became a Eucharistic Minister and Lector for fifty years at St. Bronislava Church in Plover. He still did wedding photography even after retiring from being a bus driver. He has done weddings for many couples and their children, and their children's children.

He is survived by his two sons: Eugene of Plover and Jacques (Anne Marie Halpin-Choiniere); his very special friend Josie Kracklow and his sister-in-law Phyllis (wife of brother Edmund) of Villa Park, IL; his grandchildren Pierre and Andrea Choiniere of Virginia.

He is much beloved and will be missed by all who knew him.

"Shiney" was my bus driver for many years and he was such a wonderful person! I remember all the dairy queen treats he used to buy for us on the last day before summer vacation. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family.

Josie, I'm so sorry for your loss. You were both so perfect for each other. Dave was the school bus driver for my 2 children; and later on, he was the photographer for my son and daughter in law's wedding (Kurt & Tiffany); and, of course, our path's crossed again at the YMCA water aerobics class, and had the pleasure of his and your, presence on our monthly pontoon boat ride to the 'Bahamas'. Wonderful memories of a very kind, and happy go lucky man. He is missed by many. Blessings, Jane Burroughs
