Donald P. Smith

Stevens Point - Donald P. Smith, age 90, of Stevens Point, WI died on April 4, 2021 at home, surronuded by his family.

Donald was born on February 6, 1931 to the late Herbert & Dorothy (Mohr) Smith in Stevens Point, WI. He attended the local schools including P. J. Jacobs High School. He was inducted and served for the US Navy from 1949 to 1953. During his time of service, he was stationed in Hawaii and assigned to the Sea Owl submarine. He was honorably discharged on February 21, 1953.

He married Delores R. Kranski on November 24, 1954. She preceded him in death on October 11, 2009.

In his earlier years, Donald worked as a general laborer for the Whiting Mill. He began working for the Soo Line Railroad in 1958 as a Switchman. He retired on October 15, 1987.

Donald will be remembered for his strong, silent, and compassionate nature. He was always happy to help others. In his earlier days, he enjoyed fishing, working on his car, gardening, and playing cards with friends. He enjoyed watching professional hockey as well as attending his Son and Grandsons' hockey games.

He enjoyed listening to Polkas and the oldies, and having a Friday Night Fish Fry, with a Point Beer. He also was a skilled woodworker and he made many cherished projects for his family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Ronald (Nancy) Smith of Plover, Linda (Richard) Ballerstein of Eau Claire, Carol Smith of Stevens Point, Bonnie (Dan) Wysocki of Plainfield; grandchildren, Meghann (Jason) Phillips; Aaron (Sara) Smith; Kyle Smith, Stephanie (Aaron) Graveen, Scott (Jessica) Ballerstein, David Ballerstein, Brian (Katie) Ballerstein, Jennifer (Chris) Rogatzki, Melissa Wysocki, Adam Wysocki; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert & Dorothy; wife, Delores; and sister, Jean Weston.

A time of Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. at Boston Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Aspirus Hospice for their wonderful care given to Donald. Especially his favorite nurse Melissa, he always looked forward to her visits, and she made him smile.
