World War II Veteran

Of Stevens Point died early Saturday afternoon at the Portage County Health Care Center while under the care of Ministry Hospice, with his loving family at his side.

Age 89 Emil was born January 9, 1925 in Stevens Point. He was the son of the late Felix and Susan (Drewa) Kuzynski. He attended local schools.

Emil was a veteran of World War II. He entered the United States Navy in 1943 serving in England, Scotland, Africa, Hawaii, Guam and Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married the former Marie Pliska on September 13, 1947 at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church in Custer. His wife Marie preceded him in death on April 3, 2014.

Emil worked for the Stevens Point Brewery for over 40 years retiring at age 62. Emil was a handyman and did side jobs. He was a talented wood worker in building birdhouses. He loved fishing and hunting, especially his fishing trips to Canada with his sons. He made sure everyone got up early, but always had fresh bread baked and ready to eat each morning.

He enjoyed camping and cooking on an open fire, bingo, casino trips, church picnics, playing cards and drinking ice cold Point Beer. He was a member of the Stevens Point American Legion Berens-Scribner Post 6, North American Fishing Club and the Holy Name Society of St. Josephs Parish.

He is survived by his three sons; Gary of Madison, and Ken (Debbie) and Don (Betsy) Kuzynski of Stevens Point. Nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Further survived by two sisters, Emily Winkler of Stevens Point and Theresa Zelinski of Milwaukee.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, one son Thomas Kuzynski, one daughter Mary Lou Curley, one brother Greg Kuzynski and one sister Irene Golonik.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Rev. Jerzy Rebacz officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 9:00 A.M. Thursday morning at St. Joseph Family Center until the time for mass. The Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
