Eugene Glodowski Obituary

Eugene F. Glodowski

Stevens Point - Gene F. Glodowski, 83, Stevens Point, was welcomed home by the Lord on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Atrium Post-Acute Care of Stevens Point.

Gene was born at home, on the family farm in the town of Amherst, on February 6, 1935, the youngest child of the late John and Anastasia (Sankey) Glodowski. Although Gene was the youngest of the children, as an adult he was the one everyone came to for guidance during life's challenges. Gene attended a one-room schoolhouse through 8th grade, Amherst High School, and then Wisconsin State College-Stevens Point. Gene had a long career as an accountant with Midstate Distributors in Stevens Point.

On November 9, 1974, Gene married his love, Dorothy (Weronke) Firkus at St Mary's Immaculate Conception church in Custer. They enjoyed numerous activities together, including trips "up north", fishing, gambling excursions, card parties, and especially family gatherings. Gene was an extraordinary in-home caregiver to both his mother and mother-in-law.

Gene was preceded in death by his brothers and their spouses, Reynold (Ruth), Hubert (Irene) and Alfred (Grace) Glodowski, brothers-in-law Edward Reuther and Alfred Firkus, and nephews John and Michael Firkus. Surviving are Gene's wife Dorothy and her daughter Sharon Peretz, and his sisters, Madeline Reuther and Carol Firkus. Gene was a very special uncle to all of his nieces and nephews; those left to cherish memories of Gene are Michelle (Elmer) Zwicki, Mary Beth (Jim) Tennessen, Karen (Tom) Miller, Kathy (Tom) Fields, Donna (Jeff) Klesmith, Alan (Colleen) Glodowski and Steven (Donna) Glodowski. Although Gene had no grandchildren of his own, he was like a grandfather to his great nieces and nephews; he was proud of them all and loved to be included and involved in their lives.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. at St Mary's Immaculate Conception church in Custer. The Rev Gregory Michaud will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish Cemetery, Fancher.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to nephew Steven Glodowski, who was a constant, caring presence for Gene in his last years at home and while at the Atrium. Thanks also to

Atrium and Southern Care Hospice Service for the care provided to Gene.

Blessings and Prayer to all of Gene's family. Lester worked for Midstate Distributing for years while Gene was bookkeeper there. He was a very wonderful person and everyone liked him. Les thought highly of him. I am a good friend of niece Kathy Firkus Fields. What a wonderful family you all have. You have our condolences. Carol & Les Austreng
