Harry Bushman Obituary

Harry Bushman

Galloway - Harry B. Bushman, 97, of Galloway, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his home with his friend and caregiver Rosa by his side.

He was born in the town of Franzen, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bluma) Bushman. On November 15, 1941 he married the love of his life, Alice Knitter at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2001.

Harry's father owned Bushman & Sons Potato and Brokeradge, and when he retired in 1956, he turned the operation over to his sons. The business then became the Bushman Brothers Potato Co. Harry and his brother John operated the company together, and Harry started his own brokerage business, known as Harry Bushman Inc.

Harry enjoyed spending the winters at his home in Arizona. He and Alice traveled the world, visiting every country at least once, excluding Afganistan.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Galloway, and their Men's Society.

Survivors include his brother, Ernest (Mavis) Bushman, Galloway; four godchildren, Jonathan (Sandy) Bushman, Galloway, Mark Trebatoski, Stevens Point, Karen Collins, North Dakota, and Jane (Jim) Jerzak, Green Bay; many nieces and nephews; and his friend and constant caregiver of 24 years, Rosa Nevienski, Galloway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, two brothers, Marion (Florence) Bushman, and John (Sadie) Bushman, two sisters, Ann (Nick) Knitter and Bernice (Edward) Kleman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Galloway. Fr. Augustine Bentil, Fr. Jeffrey Hennes, and Rev. Monsignor Joseph Diermeier will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 9 AM until 10:30 AM at which time the Rosary will be recited.

Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to thank Carol, Cheryl, and Monica for the care they provided, as well as Aspirus Home Health Nurses, especially Sandy. Most importantly, Harry's family cannot express enough gratitude for Rosa's constant care and companionship. She not only attended to Harry's every need, she also became a dear friend.

Harry lead life to the fullest, with his devoted wife Alice by his side. They worked hard to build a successful business and explored the world with passion. Despite Harrys physical challenges which were bestowed upon him, he continued to persevere and engage in the world as he could for 97 years, supported by Rosa, his amazing caregiver for the last 24 years of his journey on this earth.

Harry and Alice were amazing godparents to me, thoughtfully remembering each birthday and Christmas with a surprise I would have never imagined as a small child, often from their trips around the world.

Warmest blessings Harry, as you join Alice in Heaven. You will always be remembered with the kindest of thoughts.

Jane Jerzak, your godchild.

Uncle Harry was an amazing man. During my childhood, I got to enjoy many rides in his boat and got to water ski as well. When visiting Grandma & Grandpa Bushman, we would walk over to Uncle Harry and Aunt Alice to observe the abundance of squirrels they cared for. Uncle Harry would let us play with his trains and usually gave us money before leaving his house. He and Aunt Alice were always kind and generous. I enjoyed many conversations about his travels to Europe. Even though he was wheelchair-bound, he made it a point to attend all our family weddings, visits to my parent's home, and always made a point to visit them when they were in the hospital. We are so appreciative of the love and generosity he and Alice showed to my parents and siblings. May they both find comfort and peace in the presence of our Blessed Savior and our loved ones who have also passed.

Dear Uncle Harry. You will be missed by my wife Sally and myself. Your ability to succeed in business has always amazed me. We enjoyed our visits with you, Aunt Alice and Rosa. You were always a source of family knowlege especially about my father Marion. Your Christmas cards and gifts were always appreciated. I know that you are now reunited with your beloved Alice. You will always be in my prayers and thoughts. May the peace of Christ be with you always. Dr Dennis M Bushman
