John J. Bushman

John J. Bushman, 95, Galloway, died on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Homme Home of Wittenberg.

He was born on January 14, 1919 in the town of Franzen, Marathon County, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bluma) Bushman. On September 14, 1940, John was united in marriage to Sadie Grzywacz at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Wausau. She survives.

John was a life and active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Galloway and its Men's Society. He was a charter member of the St. Isidore Council 5008 Knights of Columbus, the Pere Rene Menard Assembly 1449 Knights of Columbus and the Elk's Lodge #681, Stevens Point. John farmed for many years until his retirement and was a member of the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Hall of Fame. John enjoyed taking walks daily, square dancing, traveling, vacationing and ice fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards, casino trips and most important were family get togethers.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie, Wittenberg; children, Jerome (Barbara) Bushman, Naples, FL, Elaine (Gene) Damato, Milwaukee, Margaret (Dale) Hegewald, Elderon, Robert (sp. Friend Janet) Bushman, Galloway, Cynthia (Donald) Aanonsen, Eland and Johnathan (Sandra) Bushman, Galloway;

15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Harry Bushman, and Ernest (Mavis) Bushman all of Galloway. John was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter in infancy; a brother, Marion and two sisters, Ann Knitter and Bernice Kleman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Galloway. Fr. Augustine Bentil will officiate. Interment will be in the Parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1PM until the time of service at the church. There will be an Elk's ritual at 3PM. Dear Sadie,
We tried to call you, and when it said your number was no longer in service, we looked in the obits from the Wausau daily herald.
We sure enjoyed knowing John. We thought he was really special.. one of a kind.

Our deepest sympathy! Sadie and children, may all those wonderful memories created through the years be with you daily! We know this is a difficult time in loosing a spouse and father, as when we lost our father, Clarence Schulist, John's first cousin. Our father, shared many a story about potato growing, harvesting and selling. As the oldest, I remember coming down to the warehouse in Rosholt, with potatoes from our family.
