Merril was part of the psychologist-psychiatrist team that hired me and a fine psychologist colleague. I enjoyed his humor, admired his down-to-earth approach to life and identified with his goal to help people heal and grow. He was a good man.

I worked with Dr. Hergert for many years at St. Joseph's for and have many fond memories of this kind and compassionate man. We spoke on the phone a few months ago and shared our experiences as widowers. He insisted I call him Merrill, but my tremendous respect for him made this difficult. He was a wonderful man and someone who had a great influence on my life.
