Robert Engel Obituary

Engel, Robert F.

Robert Forrest Engel, 79, died of cancer at his home in Kingwood, Texas, on April 26, 2014, in the presence of family. He is survived by his spouse, Elaine (Eskritt) Engel, daughter, Jill Engel-Cox (Glen) and his mother, Helen (Johnston) Engel, brother, William Engel (Marion); nieces, Michelle (Huehnerfuss) Schmirler (Jim) and Brenda Engel and nephew, Brad Engel. Preceding him in death were son, Robin, father, Forrest Engel, sister, Beverly (Engel) Huehnerfuss and niece, Marcia (Huehnerfuss) Daenicke.

Bob was born on May 2, 1934, in Marion, Wisconsin. As a teen, he was very active in the Boy Scouts, eventually becoming an Eagle Scout. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Wisconsin in Madison and joined Shell Oil Company. He was also a Captain in the Army Reserves for 12 years. Bob and Elaine were married on February 7, 1959 and had two children, Robin in 1960 and Jill in 1966. Bob and Elaine moved around the U.S. as Shell sent him wherever his skills were needed, including homes in Montana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Louisiana, before finally settling in Kingwood, Texas in 1974. But staying in one place was never enough for Bob, so in 1986 he accepted the position of Resident General Manager for Pecten (Shell's overseas operations) in Cameroon, Africa, where he and Elaine lived for two years. He also served five years as Manager of Coordination Pecten in Syria before retiring in 1993 after 35 years with the company.

Bob enjoyed extensive adventure travel on all 7 continents. Bob was also an avid fisherman, tennis player and dedicated woodworker who often made gifts of the birdhouses that he designed and built. He served on the Kingwood Water Board and was active in the church.

He will be buried at the Greenwood Cemetery in Amherst, Wisconsin. Memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church Kingwood, Texas or Boy Scouts of America Sam Houston Area Council, Houston, Texas.
