David Spencer Obituary

David C. Spencer 89, passed away peacefully on June 28 at Boutwells Landing, Stillwater, MN.

David was born on June 19, 1935, in Almont, MI. He attended Romeo High School participating in football and baseball. His proudest moment was getting two hits off of Dick Raditz.

Following high school, he began working at Pontiac Motors, fulfilling many expectations.

Lasting just 6 months he joined the army for the sole purpose of getting the GI Bill.

David taught at Lamar State College, TX, for several years where he had Janice Joplin as a student. With the Department of Overseas School System, he spent 5 years in the Philippines, crossing Manila Bay each day to go to work. Following the Phillippines, David remained with the DOSS and lived and taught in Kaiserslautern, Germany for 4 years.

Returning to the U.S. David accepted a position at Indiana University in the Labor Studies department where he remained for 24 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus.

In 1995 he married Mary Hudec, nee Ulrich. Together they spent many years traveling and enjoying the wonders of the world.

David enjoyed gardening, reading, classic country music, watching the Vikings and the Twins, His pets, social justice causes, and volunteering in his free time.

David was predeceased in death by his parents, Julia and David William Spencer, and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and her four children, Christi, Michael, Anne, and Matthew, all of whom he cherished deeply. He also leaves 10 grandchildren whose lives he touched with his love, wisdom, and funny stories.
