Jacob Eggers Obituary

Jacob Peter Eggers passed away on January 4th at the age of 93. Pete was born on April 16, 1931 in Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He was the oldest of three brothers. Pete grew up on the peninsula of Eiderstedt, completed high school in Husum, and graduated from agricultural school in Bredstedt. He pursued years of agricultural work with adventures in Denmark and the USA. He eventually immigrated to the US, specifically Montana, and became an American citizen, working as a butcher in Columbus and for Swift and Company in Billings.

In 1964, Pete returned to Germany to take over his family's agricultural operation.

Two years later, he married Regina Emma Maria Kantel and together they created a loving and nurturing home with their three children Britta Elisabeth, Katrin Regina and Jorg Peter.

The pinnacle of Pete's agricultural career was building a registered beef shorthorn herd. Being trilingual, Pete had many foreign connections that allowed him to import beef shorthorn from Denmark and Great Britain.

After losing his wife Regina in 2005 and three years later his son and youngest child Jorg Peter, Pete remained strong in his faith and continued to be a rock for his daughters. He made sure that he was a positive influence and consistent presence in the upbringing of his grandchildren, Emma and Hannes.

Pete supported and took pride in the academic accomplishments of his three children, son-in-law, and grandchildren who studied to become a lawyer, a teacher, a doctor, scientists and an engineer respectively.

In his retirement, Pete kept busy with splitting wood, golfing, riding his bike, planting trees, and solving daily Sudoko puzzles. The love for Montana brought Pete back to the US for yearly visits and longer stays. He was a frequent visitor at the Stillwater Senior Center, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and Fishtail businesses, where he rarely missed morning coffee hours.

Pete will be remembered for his memory of family history and historic events. He always used his knowledge as a basis for sharing and teaching life lessons.

Pete was preceded in death by his younger brothers Adalbert and Heinrich, his wife Regina and his son Jorg Peter. He leaves behind two daughters, Britta Eggers (Germany) and Katrin Chandler (Kevin)(Absarokee), and his adult grandchildren Emma Katharine (Athens, Georgia) and Johannes Peter (Butte).

A service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 24th, 2025 at St. Stephanus Church; Westerhever, Germany.

Memorials in Pete's name may be made to the Absarokee Area Foodbank, Stillwater Senior Center or the Absarokee Fire Department, all organizations Pete was passionate about.

Pete Eggers and the entire Eggers family provided a home away from home when I was an exchange student in Osterhever during 1986-87. While they weren´t my formal host family, I would never had survived that year without them. Pete always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye. He was a hard worker and kind soul. He cared for his family deeply and extended his kindness beyond his family. I am honored to have known him and have always considered him my German Pappi. Rest in Peace, Jacob Peter Eggers. You will remain in my heart forever.
