Humberto J. Herrera Sr.

Humberto Jose "Bert" Herrera, Sr., 89, was embraced in Heaven by the Lord on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Bert was a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas and served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a retired truckdriver. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hermelinda Vallejo Herrera and his son Alfredo Herrera. He is survived by his son Humberto Jose Herrera, Jr. (Mary), and his daughter Rosalba Herrera Montes. He was "Papis" to his grandchildren Adrian H. Herrera (Hilda), Rosalinda Montes, Eric C. Herrera, and Amber B. Herrera. He was blessed with great grandchildren Marcus Herrera, Dauntae Herrera, and Vivian Montes. He also shared his love with his step-grandchildren (step-great grandchildren): Ben Ramirez (Angelica and Alexandra), Melissa and Adrian De La Rosa (Julian, Adrian, and Mia), Erika Fernandez (Ayden and Erin), and Yolanda Fernandez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Bert was active throughout his prime years as a member of the American Legion Post 36, VFW Segura McDonald Post 8782, Teamsters Local Union 745, LULAC Council #8, and the El Paso Umpires Association. He was founder and president of the Ascarate Softball League and yet found time to watch his Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Atlanta Braves play.

The family will forever be grateful to Nena Martell, Rufina Favela, and numerous family friends for their assistance in caring for him during his disabled years. In light of the pandemic and its restrictions, services will be private and limited. Mt. Carmel Funeral Home will livestream his rosary.
