RICHARD CONFER Obituary

RICHARD CONFER Richard Dean Confer, 89, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the Legacy in Lincoln, Neb. Service was held on Saturday, May l0 at 11 a.m. at St Paul's United Methodist Church, 1144 M St., Lincoln. Richard (Dick) Confer was born September 2, 1935, in Trenton, Neb., at the home of his grandparents. He was born to Claude Welcome Confer and Esther Charlolette (Brown). He was very active in wrestling, football and 4H while in high school. After high school he attended McCook Community College. Richcard enjoyed several of his jobs, one of which was working on the railroad. He then was hired by the Lincoln telephone company on October 1, 1956, which he spent the next 42 years. He retired on August 1, 1998. Thinking retirement was all that, he decided to become a school bus driver. He then retired after 15 years. His love for horses, which he owned several quarter horses, took him to judging competitions at the Nebraska State Fair along with the event center. Richard was very active in the development of the Lancaster County event center, alongwith the 4-H program. He was a true Cowboy! Richard was a true Husker fan. Go Big Red! He was a season football ticket holder for many years. He is preceded in death by Claude Welcome and Esther Charlotte (Brown) Confer; wife Dorothy (Cookie) Confer; son, Dirk Louis Murphy; his loyal companion Bobby Confer (canine). Richard survived by his children, Monica (Kevin) Fischer, Dorinda Wehde, Richard Confer II, Robyn Confer; stepdaughter Denise (Steve) Radenburg; his brother Bruce (Shirley) Confer and many nephews and nieces. He is survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and one arriving in the fall. Richard's memory will live on through those who knew them and shared in his passions.
