Dear Former Neighbors,
We just learned of Alex's tragic accident; we're so sorry we didn't know in time to pay our respects at his wake or funeral. Although we did not know him as an adult, we have fond memories of him as a child. Our hearts just break for all of you. Words can't begin to convey our deepest sympathy.

I heard about your tragedy just this morning, and am overcome with sadness at such a loss. I think that the depth of a parent's grief at the loss of a child is exceeded only by the depth of a parent's love for that child. That extra measure of love will keep you moving forward to honor his memory.

Susan and Family: It is 9:39am, Thursday 9/11. Ironically or maybe a message intended for this time, the radio is playing "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton. May we all find peace in knowing that there are no more tears in heaven.

I received this in response to my email relaying the news to my daughter (Jonelle) up in Decatur, a classmate of Alex's:

"He was such a good person. He was so funny and nice to everyone, and such a good friend to everyone. This makes me so sad."

Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with your family as you endure such indescribable pain. Cherish the memories and hold them close to your heart.
