Arlene Dolan Obituary

Dolan, Arlene

May 7, 1935 - May 16, 2025

Arlene Ann Dolan passed away peacefully at home on May 16. Shortly after celebrating her 90th birthday, surrounded by love and well wishes from family and friends, Arlene gratefully declared, "I am the luckiest person on the face of the earth!"

Arlene was born at home, on May 7, 1935, to Robert and Helen Sammelman. She had three brothers, the late Bob, Bill and Jack, and is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Lou and a best friend, Theresa Scannell, who was like a sister to her.

In 1958, Arlene married the love of her life, Dick Dolan, sharing 64 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2022.

Arlene's legacy lives on through her five children: Tim (Jane) Dolan, Theresa (Chuck) Kukawka, Maureen (Don) Body, Katie (Joel) Anderson, Tom (Cindy) Dolan, 18 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Arlene is survived by a vast circle of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends who will dearly miss her.

Joy and dedication emanated from her faith in God. Arlene (aka Mrs. Claus) was the heart of Christmas and served and supported many organizations. She was also a devoted fan of the Cardinals, Blues and Mizzou. Nana traveled far and wide to support her grandchildren at their events and nothing made her happier than gathering loved ones around her big table-whether for a meal or a spirited game-where everyone was seen, heard and loved!

In keeping with her generosity, Arlene donated her body to SLU Medical School. A Memorial Mass followed by a lunch will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, June 21st, at Incarnate Word Parish.

The Slay/Forkan Family

June 13, 2025

On behalf of the family of the late Anthony and Eileen Slay {nee Forkan}, we extend our most heartfelt sympathy to our Irish cousins. Know too that we share in your sorrow and grieve for your loss. Fond memories remain nestled within the reminiscences of family gatherings and all those days of ole lang syne. Cousin Arelene will be remembered in our daily prayers to St. Patrick, as is Cousin Dick and all our Irish family.

A favorite Irish prayer of my papa was one that he brought with him in 1912 from the Village of Kiltimagh, County Mayo. He was 18 years young then. "May the angels watch over you and guide you on your journey home and that the winds of heaven blow softly in your ear and whisper just how much we love and miss you."
