Thank You Mr Busekist for making history exciting for so many of us. You were never and will never be forgotten.

I am Greg Patterson. My late mother, Martha Teeter Bullard of Jasper, Mo. was Marvin Teeter's younger sister.

I came to know Art through Nancy and we talked regularly about the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers and about Nancy.

A few times they visited Kansas City and we shared a meal.

Art was such a good guy and such a good caregiver to Nancy.

Those phone calls at odd times will be missed. I had hoped to come to St. Louis this Summer and visit them while there.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Mr. Busekist was an awesome teacher. He touched the lives of so many students. I met him at Parkway North when our children Marty Kofsky and Shelley Kofsky participated in Students in Politics Club. I chaperoned a trip to Jefferson City with him for a visit to the capital and the prison. We broke for lunch and Art and I met up with Paul at Arias Pizza. I remember telling Paul to "order what you want.your Dad is paying for it!" Paul laughed and Art said "well he would pay for Paul's lunch!" I remember seeing his students doing their walk and talk book reports. Art will certainly be missed. He was a wonderful educator! May Art's memory be a blessing to the family.

I'm sad to hear this. He was my 9th grade Honors Social Studies teacher. I wish I had tried harder to track him down to tell him a couple of things.
1. Indochina. He was teaching us about French Indochina and the 1950's. I clearly remember "correcting" him, telling him he must mean Indonesia. Thirty years later, my face is still hot with shame. I learned to check my facts first before opening my big mouth. He was very patient with me.
2. The kind of teacher I chose to be. We were supposed to do an oral interview with someone who lived during the Depression. I suffered from severe depression that year, so I just didn't do it. I also think I was afraid to ask either grandmother because I had never really talked to them like that, adult to young adult. Instead of letting me fail, he let me make up the assignment, but I had to do TWO interviews instead of one. I am forever grateful for that opportunity to get to know my grandmothers better--I will never forget those conversations.
A couple of years later, I had a different teacher who refused to let me make something up. That was the year my parents divorced and my life was in complete upheaval. I learned a lesson about teaching from that teacher too.
Thank you, Art Busekist, for giving me the benefit of the doubt and not giving up on me. I remember you every time I give a kid a second (or third) chance. Rest in peace.

Dear Nancy, Lisa, Paul and Family,

What a blessing to know Art all of these years. First through my husband Dan's eyes as a former student at (LHSN), then as a member of Zion and now Bethel. Such a caring and sweet man, a lover of "fun times" (quite the Trivia player). I will miss him almost always being the last to sit down after sharing the Peace of the Lord.

God's Peace to all of you in this difficult time.

Love,
Barbara Harms

My deepest condolences to Mr Busekist family & friends
Mr. Busekist was my 9th grade history teacher as well. He was one of those teachers that made history interesting. I can remember the way he spoke in class, he really enjoyed teaching. Best of all the way he taught made us want to learn what he was teaching. One of the best teachers I had back in those days. If I can remember his class 42 years ago, you know he was a great teacher.
I know he will be deeply missed by all.

I can only imagine the conversations Mr Busekist will have with the history makers! His students will long remember the life he gave the past. Thanks to his family for sharing him with so many. Condolences to all who knew Art. Much respect from a PNH '77 student.

Mr. Busekist was one of my favorite teachers. He really understood what made people tick. He loved the Detroit Tigers and he knew I also liked baseball. One day he was going around the room and quizzing the class about whatever the subject matter was and when he got to me he asked me "who was the youngest player to win the American League batting title?" I told him it was Al Kaline of the Tigers, which of course was correct. That was my quiz question. God Bless Him. -Marc Strauss

Dear Lisa and Paul, your dad and I had many conversations over the many years about the ups and downs of our Detroit Tigers. The last time we spoke was last Thursday and how they would do playing your Cardinals. I was expecting a call Saturday night but God called him home. No more pain and sickness. May God Bless and give you His peace and comfort.

Prayers of comfort to his family. Mr Busekist impacted the world through his years teaching. He gave me my first and only C in honors freshmen history. Before that, school had always come too easily for me. He challenged me to be and do my best. I went on to obtain a bachelor's degree and then a doctor of pharmacy. His high standards led me to a path of excellence. For that, I am truly grateful.

Mr. Busekist was a very special man. Not only was he a great teacher but he truly cared for his students. He helped me get through my freshman year at a new school and gave me confidence in myself. I have never forgotten him and often spoke of how he helped me to see the potential in myself. He also was the first history teacher to excite me about history. He will be missed.

Condolences to all of Mr. Busekist's family. He was only a teacher of mine for one class about 30 years ago. But it is still one of my most memorable classes. He had us record & interview someone who lived through the great depression. I chose my grandfather. Not only am I forever grateful to still have a voice recording of my grandfather, Mr. Busekist wrote the kindest note to me regarding how touched the interview made him feel. His note -- and his grade of an A+ :) -- did the same for me. Mr. Busekist, I know it was just about 5 months of my life, but thanks for them. You are thought of and missed.

Mr. Busekist was one of a kind to say the least. He cared deeply about his students and made his class more of an experience than just another history class. In fact, he is one of a handful of teachers who inspired be to become a history teacher myself. From the stock market simulation to his walking book reports to the trips to Jefferson City, there was something for everyone in his classes. He will be sorely missed.
