Jane and the Herder family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Herder and my dad used to take Jane and I to the father/daughter dance together. What a fun loving, wonderful man! You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this hard time.

Lisa:
I offer my deep sympathy in the loss of you Dad. He was an associate in my law office many years ago, and from that, we enjoyed a very pleasant acquaintance. He was such a kind and thoughtful person.

Dear Herders,
I am saddened by Art's passing. There is no 'Guestbook' large enough for me (or my family) to recount fondly the lifetime of memories I have of Art's belly-deep laughter I found so infectious. I pray you not be dismayed at good-bye; for 'farewell' is a necessity before you meet again; and meeting again, after fond memories of lifetimes, is certain for his loving family.

Jane, it's been many years since we've seen each other. I have very fond memories at your home during our high school years. Your father was a wonderful man, and I know he loved his family very much. Be strong and courageous during this time. I can't make it to the visitation or funeral so I thought I would sign this guest book to let you know that I am thinking of you. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Grand "Paw"
You will be missed. Thanks for the pieces of steak and/or some other type of meat table scraps at every meal.

"Mr. Herder" was always so warm, welcoming, generous and down to earth with all the Venkers. I will always have very fond memories of his visits to Madison on the way to Madeline's over the years. He was an especially wonderful father-in-law to Vince Venker for many, many years. I know Vince looked up to him as an attorney, learned to hunt from Art, and they shared many a good time together.
All the wonderful Herders are in my thoughts and prayers duing this time of transition. With much love,
Bill Bloemker

Art was a terrific father-in-law and made me feel immediately welcomed to the family (even when he found out that who he thought was a nice polish boy from the midwest turned out to be some italian guy from New Jersey). I'll always have very fond memories of Art, especially when he, Cynthia, Jane, Lisa, Elijah, Will, Nat, and Julia visited our summer homes in Wisconsin. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the family, especially my "little buddy."

My deepest sympathy to the Herder family in your time of bereavement. A special thought to my coworker Lisa, I know these times are hard for you, why, because I've been there. Things will get better through your faith and your belief in a higher power who will help and guide you through the forest of pain, but keep in mind you have your memories of your Dad that will never fade away. May God bless you and strengthen you because all your help comes from the Lord.

Mr. Herder will always be in my college memories. His daughter Madelaine was a close friend of mine in college and remains so today. We spent many an evening at the Herder residence chatting around the kitchen table and swimming in the pool. The many good qualities that Madelaine exhibits, humor, a zest for life and a drive to excel are a lasting reminder of who he was.
