Berkeley Gunther Obituary

Gunther, Berkeley

December 15, 1933 - September 8, 2025

Gunther, Berkeley Sloan, strengthened and comforted by the sacraments of the Catholic Church, died on September 8th. She was born in St. Louis in 1933 and was the devoted wife of Roland Hoerr until his death in 1969, then of Keith Gunther until he died in 2015. She was the loving mother of Buzz, Ruth, Carter, Beth (dec.), Steve and Lucia Hoerr, and dear "Bucky" to her 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was the caring stepmother of Paul, Ed, Rick, Bob (dec.) Don, and Nina Gunther, and a good friend to their 21 children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Ann O'Mahony and Mary Belknap.

Berkeley graduated from Washington University in 1975 with a Masters in English. She went on to have an illustrious 40-yr career in education, both as a teacher and administrator, which had a profound impact on the lives of so many children and their families.

In addition to her career as an educator, she was an accomplished artist who loved to paint many of the iconic landmarks in St. Louis and the beautiful rivers and forests of Missouri where she enjoyed years of floating, fishing, and hiking.

A memorial mass will be celebrated with the family at a later date.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in her honor, be directed to the American Cancer Society.
