Bonnie Rae Hawk (nee Grunde) (January 19, 1951 to September 17, 2025) was born in Lombard, Illinois and lived many places throughout her life, including Chicago, IL; Northfield, MN; Lubbock, TX, Mexico City, Mexico; Maple shade, NJ; Soria, Spain; and Kirkwood, MO. Bonnie attended and graduated from St. Olaf College for her undergraduate and graduated from University of Northern Iowa in Soria with her masters. She spent the most time in Kirkwood being a resident for over 42 years. Throughout her life, she enjoyed educational travel, learning, family and making the trek north to her family's lake house in Lakewood, Wisconsin.

Bonnie taught Spanish to students of all ages from preschool to college. When she discovered an illiterate classmate of Travis's in fifth grade, she spent the next five years tutoring her. Upon retirement, she became a dedicated volunteer at the Kirkwood Public Library and Circle of Concern and enjoyed being a grandmother.

Bonnie overcame a diagnosis of MS when her children were very young. She was determined to see them graduate from high school, then through college and advance degrees, marriages, and finally to be around for her grandchildren. She was family oriented and focused.

She passed away too early while traveling in Washington and Oregon following the travels of Lewis and Clark with her husband, an activity that she loved. She is survived by her husband James Travis Hawk; her brothers Daniel Grunde (Patricia) and Timothy Grunde (Nancy): her children Laura Stobie (Luke) and Travis Hawk (Alex): and her grandchildren Olivia and Claire Stobie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the MS Society of St, Louis, Kirkwood Public Library, Circle of Concern in Valley Park or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on October 9th at Kirkwood United Methodist Church with a short service at 5:00 p.m.
