Celeste Lipscomb Obituary

Lipscomb, Celeste Chambers embraced life from August 8, 1935 to October 12, 2010. Dee and Gene Chambers raised her in Houston and later Wichita Falls, Texas. She rests in peace with them, her grandparents, and her sister Dorothy. She went to Randolph-Macon and was a graduate from the University of Texas. She taught math, managed a floral shop and an art gallery, led scout troops and raised her children. In 1973, she and John Lipscomb were married and she arrived in St. Louis with her two children, two dogs, two gerbils, one cat, one parrot, and 237 plants. St. Louis welcomed her spirit. She volunteered with numerous organizations, started a poker group, played tennis, and restored a log home overlooking the Missouri River. With a critical eye for antiques, she and Beverly Johnson founded the Joint Venture Antique store, and conducted estate sales and appraisals for over 25 years. She is survived by her husband; her children, Cress and Chandler; her stepchildren, Johnny, Lisa and Joshua; her grandchildren, Hampton, C.C., Kirby, and George; her siblings, Neva and Bob, and their families; and many friends. She was a warm, gracious, and constructive lady, who loved champagne, elephants, the Cardinals, Dr. Pepper, The Wheel, anything chocolate, and most of all her husband and family. Services: We will celebrate her life at a service on Friday, November 5th, at 11 a.m. at THE LUPTON CHAPEL, 7233 Delmar Blvd., University City. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association, Missouri Botanical Garden, Vitas Hospice or to the charity of one's choice.
