Benos, Christos John Peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2013. Beloved husband of the late Cleopatra (nee Dountas) Benos; father of Estelle (Pete) Papadopoulos, John C. Benos (deceased) and Dino (Judy) Benos; grandfather of Tania (Nick) Scarpino, Chris Papadopoulos, Cleopatra Benos and Alexander Benos; great grandfather of Yianni Scarpino; dear brother of Ted J. Benos (deceased), Mary Zafirakis, Nitsa Sklavounas and Dino J. Benos; longtime bartender and wonderful family man. He was a member of the AHEPA 395. Services: Family will receive friends in the Great Hall of Ambruster Chapel, 6633 Clayton Rd. (Clayton) Monday, July 15, from 4pm until 8pm. Trisagion at 7pm. The funeral service will be held 10am Tuesday, July 16 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 4967 Forest Park Ave., St. Louis, MO 63108. Interment St. Matthew Cemetery. Pappou had a heart of gold and loved to make people laugh. He had stories that lasted for hours and I miss listening to his voice. He meant so the world to me and it has been a hard year without him. We had such great memories with him always driving around with him in our “first class cars” as he would call it. Trips to the mall, and traveling to Greece. I am blessed that he was able to meet his Great-grandson and Pappou never wanted to let him go when he was first born. Even though he left love ones behind he is in a better place with Yia-Yia and Theo John and I know they are all watching over us with a drink in their hand. I love you Pappou and I think about you each day. May your Memory Be Eternal.

Dear Estelle and Pete, In trying to find a way to contact you, I found this, and I am so sorry to hear of your loss. The words you wrote about your father were so beautiful. I hope that time and good friends are helping you through this difficult period. (I am the lady who rented the Wyoming St. home from you in the 1980's.) Pappou was the kind of man that loved a Great Time. He always enjoyed good company and I think I get my free spirit from him. I miss him so much and there isn't a day that goes by where I don't think about him. I know he has found Peace and he is with Yia Yia and Theo John in the Paradise of Heaven. I love you Pappou. May His Memory Be Eternal.

As I look back at my life as a young girl I thank God for the wonderful parents that were given to me and for my fun loving younger brothers. I have so many great memories of my parents and family but one of my fondest ones was when I was a young girl and my dad wanted to take me down a slide. He had never gone down a slide before and was laying on his back. My mother at the end of the slide kept saying “sit down, don't lay down.” The entire time he was laughing and we went down the slide together. I love and miss his laugh and smile. At a young age my younger brothers and I lost our mother. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to deal with as a young teenager and overnight I felt like I jumped into a role as a mother. I know it was hard for my father to be a single parent and play the role as a mother and father after my mom pasted but he never showed it to us kids.

My father was a hard worker and a family man. He loved telling jokes and always had stories to tell. When he had something on his mind you knew it. He missed mom so much and always talked about her. He would always tell me how he wished my mother was around to see me married, have children, and become a grandmother. He always reminded me that she was looking over me and now I know they are looking over me and the rest of the family together. My dad truly had a heart of gold and I know he loved me very much. He was just a big part of my life and I will miss him very much. I loved him very much and still do. My his memory be eternal.
