Bermel Herschel, Christy Lynn
Christy Lynn Bermel Herschel, 62, passed away on the morning of March 5, 2022. Christy is survived by her husband, Chris Herschel, daughter, Kelsey Lynn Herschel, and three older brothers, Boyd, Craig, and Curt Bermel. She grew up with her brothers, mother, and father in Crestwood, Missouri. She attended Lindbergh High School (go Flyers!!). Christy played many a sport growing up, taking most to ice hockey at Affton Ice Rink. Her father was her best friend, and she nursed him in her later teens as he battled cancer for four years. Her mother went on to meet and marry a fabulous man later in life, Paul Fischer, who would be a wonderful step-father to the children.
After high school, Christy went on to live out a great deal of her twenties in Dana Point, California. She later moved back to St. Louis, Missouri, where she met the man that would be her husband of thirty-one years, Chris Herschel.
She and Chris went on to find their piece of paradise on twelve acres in the countryside of Missouri. They built a quaint log cabin, where they brought their baby girl home to in September of 1995.
Christy spent the first nine years of her daughter, Kelsey's, life at home with her. Christy went on to teach at Kelsey's elementary school for nine years, where she left an impact on hundreds of children that will never be forgotten.
Christy was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer in July 2019. A lifelong St. Louis Blues fan, she watched the team obtain their first Stanley Cup and used that as fuel to defeat the cancer through six chemo treatments. She went into remission in November 2019.
Unassumingly, COPD would be her demise. She spent the last weeks of her life being cared for by her daughter and husband in the log cabin they built together many years ago.
Christy embodied peace and love in everything she did. She was kind, warm, intelligent, creative, witty, empathetic, loyal, hilarious, a bit smart-alecky, and absolutely cool. She worshipped the sun and it worshipped her right back. Christy was a sports fanatic; she knew more sports facts and stats than most men. She had seven RUSH t-shirts, naturally, to wear every day of the week. Her surviving daughter, Kelsey, will carry on her love for life, the outdoors, animals, music, botany, and the sun, among many other things, forever. "To the moon and back."

I am so sorry for the loss of Christy. I haven´t seen her in ages but fondly remember the Blues games we attended and the general mischief teens get into. The tribute sounds like she was a remarkable lady and I know she will be greatly missed.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. I was lucky enough to be her next door neighbor as a very young girl, and remember being a 'tomboy' with Christy, climbing trees, having rumbles on the grassy hills with the neighborhood kids, skating, bike riding, and sometimes just playing dolls. I am glad we were able to speak after many years, at her mother's funeral. Sending loving thoughts and sympathy to her family.
