David Peugh Obituary

Peugh, David

August 4, 1954 - May 8, 2025

David Bryan Peugh passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in Rockville, Maryland, at age 70, after a recent visit from his son Bryan Peugh (Alicia), surrounded by photos of his granddaughters, Ella and Thea Peugh, and with his daughter Joan Mayer (Jonathan) by his side.

Born in Minneapolis, MN, David graduated from Cooper High School in 1972 and earned a B.S. from Columbia University in 1976, where he co-captained the swim and water polo teams. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Michigan in 1978, coaching both sports during his time there.

David spent his career in the coal industry, holding leadership roles at Ashland Coal and Arch Coal, retiring in 2011 as VP of Business Development. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic and was a devoted father who celebrated their passions and accomplishments.

A lifelong sports fan, David's love of athletics shaped many family memoriesfrom Michigan football to Cardinals baseball and the Rams' Super Bowl win in Atlanta.

He is remembered by his former spouse and friend JoAnne Peugh. He was predeceased by his parents, Evelynne and Charles, and his sister Lynn McNeely (Michael).

The family is deeply grateful to Sunrise of Rockville for their exceptional care over the past decade.

In David's memory, please share kindness, spend time with loved ones, thank a caregiver, support a cause, or enjoy a ballgame with friends.

David was a very important part of our junior and senior highschool fun and friendships. He was dedicated to the swim team success and all the swimmers personally. He brought joy to every gathering and his great laugh was infectious. We have lost one of the good ones. Condolences to his entire family and circle of friends.

Dave and I had lots of fun times in elementary and junior high. Lots of baseball and football fun. Dave was a great swimmer.
My best memory is at Halloween, Grandma Peugh made the best Carmel Apples!
