I met Fr Dave at Camp Don Bosco many years ago. Boundless energy and real enthusiasm for life. What an awesome man. Thank you for being a friend.

When I received word of Fr. Dave's passing last Friday, I began to reflect on the importance of his friendship and guidance in my life over the years.
My wife Adrienne, and I have been well blessed by knowing and interacting with Fr. Dave, or Dave as we all called him.
We will miss Fr. Dave a lot.
May the Lord send His Angels and Saints to take you home to His Kingdom my old friend.

I attended Mass at the stadium many times with Fr. Dave. Such a sweet, kind, and very funny man. We will miss him very very much at the stadium.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Fr. Dave's family during this time. We will fondly remember his time at the Barnes Newman Center and involvement with the SEARCH retreat program. God Speed Fr. Dave and peace be with your family.

What a lovely person to know... we had great travels in Colorado with him and Monsignor ("Uncle", to us) Jerome Sommer. They were such great friends; we were fortunate to spend time together and talk Cardinals baseball.

I will always remember when Fr. Dave starred as "Grandpa Martin Vanderhof"
and I was his co-lead "Penny Sycamore" in a Summer 1985 production of "You Can't Take It With You" directed by my sister Joan Bornholdt Finder at Florissant Valley Community Center theatre to benefit The CYC Search Program! Fr. Dave was always a happy person who took time to help others (i.e. he baptized my sister Jean's 3 boys at Our Lady of Providence in the 1990s as a personal favor to her!). He will be missed by many, but Heaven is now more fun with Fr. Dave there--perhaps starring in another play!

What a sad loss to so many who knew and loved this remarkable man. From first meeting "Fr, Charlie" at a CAC meeting in 1970, bumping into him in in NYC, to enjoying Schlagel hayrides, house parties, home masses, to sharing a casual lunch together, he was a dear friend, giver, and spiritual leader. RIP,Fr. Charlie. Go Cards!
