George Metzger Obituary

Metzger, George Timothy, Sr.

October 29, 1936 - October 21, 2025

Entered Into Rest on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

Beloved husband for 58 years to the late Jo Ann Metzger, dear father of George (Laura), Michael (Julie), Mary (James) Cowart, Ann, Carolyn (Jim) Naumovich and the late Amy Fernandez, grandfather of 12, and great grandfather of six. Brother to Steve and departed siblings Jim (Betty), Marilyn (Bernie) Steffel, Janet (Jack) Ueberle, and Susan (Bob) Maloney.

George was born in St. Louis, MO, on October 29 1936, to Minnette Alice and Paul James. He attended Mt. Carmel Grade School, Saint Louis University High School, and Saint Louis University where he was a member of the Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity.

He was employed by Reynolds Metals primarily in St. Louis, MO, later transferred to Exton, PA and Richmond, VA. Upon retirement in 1993, he moved to Kirkwood, MO to begin a new career in real estate. In May of 2024 he moved to The Gatesworth in St. Louis, MO.

George enjoyed volunteering, exercising at the YMCA, and riding his bicycle. He loved to travel, spending the month of February in Marco Island, FL sitting in the sun, listening to music, and visiting with friends and family. George was proud of his hometown roots and talked fondly of "all the good times" in St. Louis. He cherished the Metzger summer beach vacations, a family tradition for over 40 years.

Visitation and funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at St. Peter Catholic Church (243 W. Argonne Street | Kirkwood, MO). Visitation is at 10 a.m., Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Internment is private at St. Peter Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church.

Who do I call now on Saturday mornings? Proud to be his son, just a really fun guy and liked by all. I know where my love of music comes from. Loved a good meal too. A true people lover, tremendously skilled at conversation. Dad, kiss Mom and Amy for me.

George, you were one of a kind and are dearly missed. It was an honor to get to know you and spend time with you and the beautiful family you created with Jo. I´ll always remember our chats, your visits to California, and the style and humor you gifted us with. You can be proud of a life well lived.
