Jerry was one of the first people I met when I moved to El Paso 30 years ago at the EPAA. Throughout my career he’s was my “turn to” guy whenever I had questions about the lease or military. I will always remember his kindness and being a mentor to me. Rest peacefully Mr C. You are still loves my many and misses every day.

Jerry,
It was an honor to serve under your leadership in Vietnam.
I remember calling you in 2001 and you told me about the 31st Infantry association. It was in Pittsburgh in 2002 that we first got together after 32 years. Today there are several hundred men reunited because of our visit. You were a great man!

Carson Family,
What a lucky man I am for having known Col. Carlson! I met him at St Michael's Church. We shared a bond that transcended age differences. I sincerely miss our talks after church and the quiet professional bearing he brought to the reactivation ceremonies for 4th Battalion, 17 Infantry. It is a great honor to know him, an even greater honor to listen to his experiences. I can still see the glow in his eyes when he talked of his family! I know that he has joined others who went before him. See you on the objective, Sir! very respectfully, SGM Jose Luis Fragoso

Like many other El Pasoans, I knew Jerry Carlson as the leader of the El Paso Apartment Association. He was not just an exceptional administrator, he was an exceptionally good man. I knew he had served proudly in the military, but I had no idea how accomplished he had been in that previous career. He never bragged about it. He darn sure could have bragged about it though. Wow. I was honored to have known him.

Col. Carlson was the perfect example of what all leaders should be. He was a man of integrity and he passionately cared for the men who he commanded. It was an honor and privelege to serve under him.

Jerry was a great, great guy. We always enjoyed visiting with him when he was up in the Chicago area to see my Mom for visits or events. It's an honor to be able to call him family.

Colonel Carlson was a great soldier and an even greater man. I will never forget him helping me thru the most terrible day of my life in July of 1969 when I had lost two men KIA and one badly wounded. Colonel Carlson placed his men above all else, and we knew that we were more than just cannon fodder to him...we were real people. We would have followed him into the depths of hell.

It was Taps time, Sir, and again you dutifully answered the call. Our numbers again have dwindled by one, but what a leader you were. I would have been proud to have served with you but our wars were at different places. It was a pleasure knowing you. May we meet again.
