My condolences to the Helfrich family. I am a former neighbor (Turkey Bend) and played softball at Ellisville Athletic fields. I can still see him with his grandson in his driveway, waiting with him for the school bus, and also behind the plate on the softball fields. He will be missed.

I knew Jerry from Dierbergs. I was so stunned to read that he passed away. My son Joseph (8) and I recently had a conversation with Jerry. He talked to Joseph about school and about Joseph's sisters. He also shared stories about his grandkids. Jerry had a special way about him that I will miss. He took pride in his work at Dierbergs yet had a playfulness about him that was fun for kids and adults. I will miss his enthusiasm and genuine spirit. My condolences to Jerry's wife and kids.

Our condolences to the Helfrich family. I met Jerry at Ellisville Athletic Association. I am a board member and Jerry was an adult softball umpire. Jerry always had a smile and a kind word. It was later that I found out that my wife, Janet (Lutterman), played softball with his daughter, Terri. Every time I would see him at the ball park, he would go out of his way to say, hi, or talk to me, my kids, and Janet. He will be missed up at EAA. Our thoughts and prayers are with you family at your time of loss.

I was deeply saddened when I received the news of Jerry’s sudden passing. Jerry was such a funny, energetic and supportive person. I’ll never forget how excited Jerry could get…This excitement was contagious and always brightened up the day of those around him. I know Jerry will be missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

I am just a customer from Dierbergs and have known Jerry for about three years..He was always telling me about his grandkids or telling me a silly joke..A smile during a crazy day that was always needed. My nine year old daughter (who is always with me at the store) and I, have shed a tear or two today when we heard the news...We will never forget his smiling face and we will pray for his family that I know he loved and I can't imagine the hardship they are going through.

"Jerry" was my childhood friend where we lived a block apart. I lived on California Ave. (and Jerry's street name eludes me right now) He lived right across from Saint Francis De Sales. We used to walk the alley to get to each others house. We were 8 or 10 years old. Jerry's mother was Jeanette and she used to keep Jerry and I busy on summer days--------she would fill up two can's with water and give each of us a paint brush to paint the garage (with water).......it kept us out of trouble!! I remember his dad, Ray, who I believe was an insurance agent. A Very good and caring family. I also remember Jerry's younger brother, Richard.

Like most childhood friends, our families moved to different parts of St. Louis, we grew up and went our separate ways. But, in the last 10 years or so Jerry and I kept in contact and shared emails once and a while.

I have lived happily in Nashville, Tennessee since 1978. I'm sorry to be unable to attend the funeral service.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting his wife and children. I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

God Bless the entire family
