Rhomberg, Gregory R.
Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Beloved husband of Ann E. Rhomberg (nee Bradford); dear father of Virginia (Bill) Bell, Valerie (Will) Ellert, Gabrielle Rhomberg and Trudy Rhomberg; loving grandfather of Wiley Bell and Annie Ellert; dear son of Gerald and Rosemary Rhomberg; dear brother of Jeff (Mistie) Rhomberg and Maria (Matthew) Clements; son-in-law of Barbara (the late Robert) Bradford; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
Greg was a curator, a gardener, a businessman and a dedicated volunteer. At age seven, Greg started his antique collection. As owner and curator of his own museum, Greg was committed to restoring St. Louis memorabilia, from neon signs to fire engines. He valued the preservation of St. Louis history and contributed to many books detailing the city's rich past. His career as a businessman also began at age seven. Continuing the family tradition of Rhomberg Farms, Greg began selling fruits and vegetables from his roadside stand, which he ran alongside his brother, Jeff. As an adult, Greg provided his produce to local restaurants and food pantries. Many regarded his tomatoes as the best they'd ever tried. Greg served as CEO of Nu Way Concrete Forms Inc., a third-generation family business to which he devoted his life's work. Greg has been a guiding force in the success and expansion of his family's company. His idea to open Nu Way Rents in 1990 was a revolutionary decision which enabled the company to grow and reach even greater success. In 2005, Greg was named to the 40 under 40 list by St. Louis Business Journal. Greg served on the boards of the Midwest BankCentre, the Missouri History Museum, and the National Museum of Transportation. In 2016, Greg co-curated the Route 66: Mainstreet Through St. Louis exhibit at the History Museum. He was an avid supporter of the St. Louis Building Arts Foundation, the George B. Vashon Museum of African American History and Villa Duchesne, the alma mater of his four daughters. Greg enjoyed taking his wife and daughters on trips to Europe and spending his summers on Sanibel Island. During his last years of life, he spent much of his time with his wife at his vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Despite his seemingly endless list of accomplishments, Greg was most proud of his beautiful family. He felt incredibly lucky to have spent precious time with his grandchildren, Wiley and Annie.

I cannot believe that it has been a year since our dear friend, Greg, has left us. As I speak in behalf of our family, Greg has left and indelible mark in our memories. He is a true friend, a passionate one at that. His attention to detail is impeccable and that is what separates him from others. He lived his life paying attention to detail, henceforth the success of everything he touches from his endeavors in business to his all-Americana collection. I am fortunate to have been a recipient of his passion. I sorely miss him and looking forward to express my overdue condolence to Ann and his daughters in person someday.

I had the pleasure of meeting Greg and having dinner with him several times when he attended the Chicago Land Coin Op Show. I was always impressed with his easy going nature, and he always made a point of telling us about his family. Some folks you meet only a few times, but they make an impression on you. For me, Greg was one of those kind of people. My deepest condolences to his family on this loss. He was a good man.

Greg was more than a boss to me, he was a friend. He was a great leader who showed great vision and care for all the employees. I will never forget him and all he said and did for me. He was my Mr. President (inside joke between us)

I am one of the three houses on Happy Lane. Greg was truly a person who cared about his community and he was always willing to help when he could.
He helped me many times with school projects at Bierbaum, where my children attend. He was such a good resource about issues in our community and the history of our area. Just a few months ago, I emailed him when they found a time capsule at Bierbaum because I knew he would love the history of it.
He was also the leader of Happy Lane in a sense. Even though he didn't live on our street, he always set the bar high on what Happy Lane "should" be. He never minded when my kids would come down and drink out of the water fountain or ride their scooters/bikes around his warehouse.
We will truly miss seeing his white SUV drive down our street, seeing him tend his garden in the hot summer months and his general presence on our street. Our hearts go to his wife and his family. He will be missed.

I was very shocked and saddened upon hearing about the passing of my friend and fellow MTC/Allen Herschel train enthusiast Greg Rhomberg, a very successful business owner, farm owner and premier antique collector. Always with a kind word and down to earth in the 22 years I knew him. I first met Greg in the summer of 2000 when he came downtown to Union Station where I was operating my MTC miniature train ride for kids. We became "train friends" since and shared some great "train times' over the years! Greg was the only person I ever trusted to let take and borrow my amusement park train ride to use at his annual Antique Warehouse Open House back in 2005 and 2006.
I've attached some photos from Greg's Open House in 2006 (me taking my old MTC G-12 #141 for a spin) and photos when Greg & I went to the 2007 Miniature Railroad Convention at John Wood's Arborway, TT & Northwestern Railroad. We took a ride on American Heritage Museum's MTC G-16 and Greg rode co-engineer on one of the larger diesel locomotives.
My sincere sympathies to Greg's family and friends and those who had the privilege of knowing him. RIP my "Train Friend".

I had the honor of meeting Greg and working for him for almost 20 years. He was always such a giving and companionate person. I always was thankful for the time we had and for letting me steal his dog Buddy.(lol) Even after leaving Nuway we still remained in touch thru his antiques. In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Wendy Cauley

I have had the privilege of being Greg´s friend for 20+ years. For years, my husband faced extraordinary medical challenges. Greg was always there to offer my family sunshine. He generously gave us Fox and Muny tickets, tours of Happy Lane, fruits and vegetables from Rhomberg Farms, helped my son get a job, and offered encouragement whenever needed. I am forever grateful for his kindness. As we faced our challenges, Greg was facing his own medical challenges. Whenever I would ask Greg how he was doing, he shifted the conversation. That is not what Greg was about. Greg was about other people...he gave, he shared, he cared. I am grateful to God that I had the opportunity to know Greg Rhomberg. Rest in peace my friend.

Greg passing is a tremendous loss to The National Museum of Transportation. Greg was truly our `go-to guy´ for so many things. He so willingly offered us guidance in restoration, history, equipment, programming, and so much more. Concept to completion, he implemented exhibits, programs, and he started our most popular event, `The Pumpers and Pistons Show,´ now in its 14th year. He was a mentor playing such a tremendous role in our efforts to preserve history for the next generations. That is what Greg was at the core. He had a wealth of knowledge and willingly shared that gift with others. Greg would give and get gifts for the Museum. When we would ask how he wanted the gift used, he would always say, `Do what is best for the Museum.´ Rest well dear friend.

I will forever cherish our friendship. Monday lunches at Hill Top, Tuesday night dinners, the best tomatoes ever and projects at the National Museum of Transportation just to name a few of the memories. Visits to Happy Lane, a wonderful family - the girls all coming to Carl´s Drive In and now the proud grandfather. Greg was one-of-a kind. If you meet a person like that once in your lifetime you are very lucky. I know our friendship enriched my life and I consider myself to be very lucky. On to the next adventure, my friend.
