Thiel, J. Allen, M.D.
Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, on Friday, June 7, 2024. Beloved husband for 65 years of the late Marjorie Hogan Thiel; loving father of Alicia (Roger) Cammon and Frank Thiel; proudest grandfather of Andrew and Margot Cammon; dear uncle, cousin, friend, and personal physician to many.
Allen was born in Ridgefield, New Jersey and raised in Wellesley, Massachusetts and Kansas City. He was a graduate of Rockhurst College and St. Louis University School of Medicine, studying internal medicine. Following medical school, he completed a fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine, Saint Louis. As an associate clinical professor of medicine-allergy at Washington University, he enjoyed instructing and mentoring others in the weekly allergy clinic at Barnes Hospital. As a respected internist and allergist in private practice at St. John's Mercy Medical Center, Allen provided 60 years of service to the Sisters of Mercy - from his early days as chief resident to Director of the Division of Allergy, which he maintained until his retirement in 2020.
Allen was first and foremost a humble steward of his Catholic faith whose greatest passion was caring for his patients. Though he loved his family, he never wished he were anywhere else but his medical office. His was a life well-lived and he was well-loved in return by all who knew him.

I spent many years with Dr Thiel who laughed at me every time I came into his office! I had terrible asthma but could not bring myself to get rid of the biggest offenders....my cats. I don´t know that I felt more at home with any other man other than my own dad. I have so many fond memories and funny stories of my years with him as my Doc!

I am so sorry to have learned that Dr. Thiel has passed away. I had the pleasure of being his patient for 35 years (1985-2020) and my grandson also was his patient for a number of years. Dr Thiel was an outstanding allergist who truly took the time to listen to his patients and displayed warmth and care as a physician. I always admired his thoroughness and curiosity about medical treatments and his dedication to his patients. My condolences to his family. His memory is a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
