James Stewart Obituary

Stewart, James Walter James Walter Stewart, a lifelong resident of St. Louis, was born March 21, 1927 to Virginia Mae Counts and Walter Lee Stewart, and died peacefully April 25, 2017. A graduate of Normandy High School, Class of 1944, Jim enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Electronic Technician's Mate Third Class. Jim then attended Washington University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked in that capacity for the United States Defense Corp. and Ernst & Ernst, followed by a dedicated career from 1963 through 1987 for Pet, Inc. A Christian since the age of 14, Jim would talk about the Lord he had come to know with anyone. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, serving two terms as a Deacon. Jim's generous heart and spirit to help others in need led to him volunteering his time and resources to many charitable activities including the United Way, Habitat for Humanity and Sunshine Mission. He also enjoyed serving as a Scout Leader for his son's Boy Scout troop. Jim is survived by his daughter, Nancy McCahan; sister, Virginia Utnage; niece, Karen Wright, and nephew, Paul Utnage and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by Jeanne, his wife of nearly fifty years, and his son, Greg. Services: Memorial Service on Saturday May 6th, 11 am at Central Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in his name to Missions & Outreach at the Central Presbyterian Church, 7700 Davis Drive, St. Louis, MO 63105 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148. Mr. Stewart was one of my favorite clients. A true gentleman, he had a "booming" laugh and huge smile I will never forget. Nancy, your dad was "one of a kind". I will miss him. Regards to all.
