James Tilden Obituary

Tilden, James F., Jr. ,66, of Lake Ozark, MO, passed away November 4, 2005 following a short illness. He is now united in heaven with his beloved wife Nancy, who passed away October 23, 2005.Services: Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at the OldMission Cemetery, 3424 E.21st, Wichita, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association in his memory.
Jim was born March 23, 1939 to Dr. James F. Tilden and Jean MacLeod Tilden in Wichita, Kansas. He obtained his early education in the Wichita public school system before attending and graduating from Wentworth Military Academy in 1956. He then attended the University of Oklahoma prior to his marriage to Nancy Joan Young. Jim and Nancy moved to California where Jim entered the retail business as a shoe salesman. He rose quickly through the ranks and became an executive with Macy's Department Stores in Wichita and Kansas City followed by an executive vice president position with Famous Barr in St. Louis, Missouri. Jim retired in 1989 and he and Nancy moved to the Lake of the Ozarks. Jim loved the out-of-doors, boating, fishing and the peaceful living the Lake community offered.
Jim's greatest loves, however, were his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. They were "Papa's" pride and joy and he derived great pleasure from each of them. Jim loved his life and lived it to its fullest leaving behind a loving family and many friends who will miss his wit and wisdom. He was a joy to know and there will be a definite void in all whom enjoyed the pleasure of his friendship. Jim is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Jean Tilden and their children, Paige and Natalie of Ellisville, Missouri; Tom and Kate Tilden and their son, Max of Overland Park, Kansas; granddaughter, Michelle Hoag and husband, Mitch and great-granddaughter, Macie Jean of Yates Center, Kansas; sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Kathy Howell and husband, Bruce Howell of Greenwood Village, Colorado. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, daughter, Kim Markham and his Mother and Father. Jim's final days were filled with great sadness over the loss of his wife and life partner of 49 year, Nancy. Family and friends who are still grieving over the loss of Nancy are deeply impacted by this second loss but find comfort that the two are once again united.

I am a cardiologist who helped care for Jim at Jewish Hospital in St Louis in the early 1980's. I spoke with him several times over the last 20 yrs. I am so sorry for the loss of both Jim and Nancy - I remember them as happy, smiling people, a memory reinforced by the few conversations with them since their move to the Lake. They are still in the Rolodex on my desk. My memories will always be of their smiling, impish and jovial demeanors. God bless all of you and all of us.

We are so sorry that we can't be with you tomorrow. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with each and everyone of you. It is hard to lose a parent, but to lose them both at almost the same time has to be unbelievable. We are thinking of you.
