Jane Greer Obituary
Jane Louise Greer (née Lawing), age 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her three children on August 27, 2025, in St. Charles, Missouri. Born on December 25, 1940, in the same city to which she would return in 2001, Jane's journey was one marked by love, creativity, and a deep commitment to family and community.
A proud graduate of St. Charles High School's Class of 1958, Jane went on to attend Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. While at Northeast Missouri State, Jane met Richard Greer, a fellow education student. They fell in love and married in 1961. Jane taught both English and Art until she and Richard welcomed their first child. As a young mother, Jane devoted herself primarily to the role of homemaker, though she never stopped teaching. The home she made was a haven of warmth and imagination, filled with laughter, love and learning. When her children were small, Jane could often be found creating modeling clay animals on demand or telling original bedtime stories on a nightly basis. As her children grew, Jane would return to the classroom to take on long and short-term substitute teaching assignments in all areas of education.
Jane's kind and gentle spirit was recognized by everyone she encountered. She led her life with compassion and empathy, always ready to listen or lend a helping hand. Her intellectual curiosity was boundless; an avid reader, she often read two or more books at once. Her appreciation for the written word was matched only by her own creative pursuits – she found joy in writing, drawing, sewing, and more, often using these outlets to express her thoughts and experiences.
Gardening brought Jane peace and satisfaction; she nurtured both plants and people with equal care. She also loved traveling to spend time with family, cherishing every opportunity to be present in their lives. From 2004 to 2019, Jane volunteered at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, where she shared her passion for the arts with others and contributed meaningfully to the local cultural community.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Greer; her parents Alice and Aubrey Lawing; and her dear sister Judith Toman.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: son John Greer; daughter Sue Ellen (Greer) Jacobs and son-in-law Philip Jacobs; daughter Jenna Greer and son-in-law Gregory Angstman, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
May Jane's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and serve as a lasting reminder of a life lived with kindness, creativity, and unconditional love. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held in Jane's honor at the Foundry Art Centre at 520 N. Main Center in St. Charles, MO on October 9, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please join us in remembering Jane and take home a small memento by which to remember her.
