Father John, you will be missed. I remember Fr. John from St. Williams Parish in Woodson Terrace in the early 1980's. He was a true story teller and the way he got everyone involved during Mass was refreshing. There aren't many like him around any more and we all lost a good friend as well as a wonderful Priest.

Fr. John was my cousin. Everyone witnessed his caring and loving side as a person and a priest.
Many did not know he could have been a professional soccer player. His brother, my cousin Sam mentioned, “He said he would rather help people than play pro soccer.”
A fellow priest Fr. Gerard Welsch, Pastor of St. John Bosco commented about his soccer ability, “He was a moose out on the field.”
On and off the field he was a true professional in every aspect of life, great memories!

I have known Father John since the 60's when he was associate pastor at St. Rita in Vinita Park. He was pastor at my grandparents church, Our Lady of Good Counsel; he baptized my children, he counseled me when I went through my divorce. He buried my grandparents, he buried my father who was not Catholic, just a friend. He's been there for me as long as I can remember, helping me with my faith all along the way, giving me a strong hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on, and that wonderful smile and laugh. I will certainly miss him but know he is with the Father in heaven. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Father John.

Father Caffe married my wife Kara and I...he did a wonderful job with a ceremony that brought families from two different backgrounds together. I'll never forget that he made us say a couple prayers twice because he said he couldn't hear us...everyone laughed. Go with the Lord father...

I always liked and had great reverence to Fr. John when I was at ICD. He usually had long homily and takes longer for sacraments of reconcilation but I always liked it and wanted more. He also one of the priest who said a mass for Dad memorial mass. I always liked the way he start morning weekday mass with a short homily and his way of praying our Lord Prayer and deeply saddened to receive the news of his passing away. I tried to understand why he was not very high in his designation understandably due to his health issues but truly believe he was a saint on earth. I tried to identify his date of death has any significance and thought let me read Gospel of John on his death day which was 21 and found that it was last Chapter in the Gospel of John and seemed to be the last Gospel of Sunday before his death and today I felt to read revelation and it had chapter 21 and 22 signifying the New heaven and and Earth and end of Death and suffering. Truly he is in our Lords kingdom and pray for all his family , near and dear ones who miss him.

I first met Father John when He was assigned to Our Lady Of Good Council in Bellefontain Neighbors. He would often come by our home in the early evening, and after a beer and some very good coversation, would slouch back on the couch, and fall asleep. Will cherish those memories always. A prince of a man.

On behalf of the Hill Family of Immaculate Conception Dardenne Parish, we express our heartfelt and sincere condolences to the family and friends of Fr. John. The first time we had the opportunity to worship at ICD, he was the celebrant and it was obvious to us that Fr. John was a Spirit-filled man. Our friendship continued over these past 7 years and I am happy to have had a good long conversation with him just recently -- one that was filled with lots of laughter and hugs. A man of incredible grace and intellect, we will miss him so very much. But we rejoice in knowing he is home with Our Lord! Rest in peace Fr. John!

Fr. Caffe was a great man. He was there for my family when it seemed no one else was. He baptized my son and gave the last rights to my father when he was the pastor at St. Gregory's in St. Ann (now Holy Trinity). He will be missed greatly.

My family and I wish to express, to all of Fr. John's family, how deeply saddened we were to hear about Fr. John. He was a wonderful priest, friend, and a neighbor. A passing greeting always turned into a half hour conversation with him. We always enjoyed joining in on his singing of the 'Our Father'. May God bless him and his family in their time of loss and sadness.
