John Grunz Obituary

Grunz , John F.

Fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Beloved son of the late Catherine (nee Kelly) and Donald G. Grunz; loving brother of Margaret (David) Blakelock of Boston, MA and Dr. D. Joseph (Jianhui Hu) Grunz of University City, MO; dear uncle of Catherine (Nathan) Blakelock of Jacksonville, FL, Alexandra Blakelock of Washington, D.C. and Emily Grunz of University City, MO. John loved his many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He thrived as part of a large and loving family. John worked at Lafayette Industries for over 34 years. He loved cats, watching old movies, particularly comedies, and TV shows from the 1960's and 1970's, and enjoying time with his friends at Glan Tai, a group home for adult men with intellectual disabilities. John will be remembered for his good cheer and positive outlook on life.

Services: A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the spring when it will be safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Louis ARC, 1177 N. Warson Road, St. Louis, MO 63132 or online at www.slarc.org.

Love the idea behind the phrase 'Say their name'. Keeps individuals alive though gone from us.

One of 'Johnny Five's' best friends on our team was also its biggest bully. Bully's never bothered John. And I don't remember anyone EVER convincing John who he should or shouldn't be friends with. If John was your friend, it was for real.

Maggie & Joe, Words fail to express my sorrow for your loss. Please know I am with you through this difficult time. Sorry I did not get to know him better.

Had the pleasure of working with John for 23 years. On the same team for most of them. He told us to call him Johnny Five, so we did. The man could put out a LOT of work. Was a gentleman too. He made our jobs a pleasure. How many of us will that ever be said of. I miss him already. One of the beautiful people in our world. Heavens richer, we are poorer. Great picture by the way. We loved him.
