Obermann, John Hadley
John Hadley Obermann was called to the Lord on March 1, 2021 at his New Smyrna Beach, Florida home. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021, 2:00 p.m.. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 505 S. Kirkwood Rd. A Service of Committal was previously held at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Smyrna Beach.
John was born to Martin and Hilda Obermann (nee Heuer) June 26, 1932 in Okawville, Illinois. His parents moved to St. Louis when he was a child and he attended Lutheran High School, St. Louis University and the University of Wisconsin. He was employed by Lutheran Hospital before beginning his banking career. He retired in 1989 after 34 years with Mercantile Commerce, Mercantile Trust and Mercantile Bancorporation.
John also served the Lutheran Church at large, in particular, Lutheran Hour Ministries. In addition, he was an active volunteer for countless Lutheran agencies, filling many leadership roles: Lutheran Hospital Board, Lutheran Foundation, President's Council of Concordia Seminary, LASE, Grace Place Ministries, and others. John also devoted many hours to civic endeavors, including the redevelopment of Grand Center, in conjunction with St. Louis University, and was a member of the University Club, MAC, and Kiwanis. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, first at Holy Cross and later at Concordia of Kirkwood and was a U.S. Army veteran.
John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Donita (nee Thompson), son John and daughter-in-law Dr. Barbara Fluder, and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Concordia Lutheran Church, Kirkwood, Feed My People, or a charity of your choice are suggested.

To Donita and family...we express our heartfelt sympathy for your loss. John was a great man and a great Christian. (Not to mention a great pianist!). Our family enjoyed many happy times with John and treasure those memories. We will keep you all in our prayers!
