Joseph Avery Obituary

Joseph H. Avery Jr., a remarkable soul who lived life with a swing in his step and a fastball sense of humor, has bid us farewell on May 23, 2023, at the sprightly age of 89. Born on October 13, 1933, Joseph's zest for life was as infectious as a hole-in-one and his kindness as abundant as a grand slam.

Joseph, affectionately known as "Joe," was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course and a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. His love for the game and his unwavering support for his team brought joy to many. But Joe's accomplishments extended far beyond the fairway. After serving his country with honor in the US Air Force in Japan, he traded his wings for a degree in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis, earning top honors. Talk about a hole-in-one career move!

As a devoted father, loyal friend, and active member of the community, Joe's impact was felt far and wide. He tackled life's challenges with the same determination he used to conquer the back nine. Following his successful sales career, which included stints at Wohl and Brown Shoe Company, Joe decided to take a swing at the insurance business. He moved to sunny Florida, where he continued to perfect his golf swing, relished in his passion for non-fiction reading, and embarked on a second career that lasted over two decades. But even the allure of palm trees and sandy beaches couldn't keep him away from his beloved St. Louis. Joe returned to be closer to his family, proving that home truly is where the heart is.

Joseph leaves behind his brother, Terrance G. Avery, his children, Jim (Lisa) and Cheryl, and his grandkids, Stephanie and Caroline Avery, Madeline, Emma, and Sophie Volding. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. Avery Sr. and Mary Avery. Joe's legacy also lives on in the hearts of his numerous cousins and friends, who were lucky enough to experience his infectious laughter and generous spirit.

A celebration of Joseph's life will take place on August 4, 2023, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in Saint Louis, MO, where the military ceremony will commence at 1100. It's sure to be a fitting tribute to a man who served his country and his community with equal gusto.

Joseph's legacy is a testament to his love for life, his devotion to family, and his unwavering work ethic. His jokes and puns will forever echo in our hearts, reminding us to approach each day with a smile. Though we bid him adieu, his spirit and love will forever tee off in our memories. Rest in peace, dear Joseph. Your zest for life will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

May your memories give you peace and comfort of your loved one. Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for the loss of your loved one. May GOD be with you all during this difficult time. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus.
