Joseph Ross Obituary

Ross, Joseph Alan Born May 29, 1998 in St. Louis, Missouri. Joe passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2018. Beloved son of Judge John A. Ross and Judy (Lueckerath) Ross. Cherished brother of Emily Ruth Ross. Loving grandson of Fredric and Ruth (deceased) Lueckerath, Bernard and Elizabeth Ross (both deceased). Nephew of Debra Lueckerath, Mark and Judy R. Goodman, Cousin of Lauren G. (Lex) Lefebvre, William Goodman and Evan Amelia Goodman. Joe was an extraordinary young man and loved by all who knew him. Joe had a way of making everyone feel as if they were his very best friend! He excelled in both academics and athletics. At Parkway West High School, he was an outstanding swimmer and tennis player, qualifying for State meets in both sports. He was a National Merit finalist, president of Mu Alpha Theta and founder of Ferguson Youth Tutors, a student run organization providing tutors to assist young people in the Ferguson area. At the University of Chicago, Joe immediately established himself as a great student and friend to everyone! He was very involved in his fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi, and other campus activities. His future was bright and he was thrilled to have been selected as an investment banking summer analyst for Wells Fargo Securities. Joe's drive and ambition never got in the way of his endearing and kind nature. Joe was a great friend of mine, and that's an understatement. From Ferguson Youth Tutors and visiting Joe in Chicago to just getting food or making him go shopping with me, I have so many good memories with him it would take me a while to think of them all. Joe never failed to make me feel like I was important to him, no matter what. I am so unbelievably lucky to have stayed close with Joe after high school because we got the chance to make so many more memories, and I wish with all my heart I could make one more. I will forever be thankful for the time we got to spend together, fly high friend

Dear John and Judy,

Our deepest sorrow and sympathy to you and your family. Nothing can express how we feel about your tragic loss. We remember clearly the U Chicago freshman move in weekend on September 17 & 18, 2016, when Joe, Hector, Jordan, and David met each other for the first time as suite-mates, and our four families were all in that crowded dorm suite talking, laughing, and settling in their stuffs. We took a picture of the four of them wearing the same freshman T shirt - they looked so young, excited, and energetic in that photo. They waved at us happily after the photo was taken and eagerly sprang off to the opening convocation ceremony. May these fond memories of Joe comfort you in the dark days you are experiencing and brighten you in the many years to come.

Dear Ross family,

My heart goes out to you during this difficult time. Please know I have so many fond memories of Joe being fun loving, spirited, and at times boisterous at parkway swim practice. He had such a passion for swimming and cared so much for his teammates. Although we don't understand why he was taken so soon, I'm sure God has big plans for him. I pray you can find peace and remember all the joy he brought to all our lives. God bless.

Joe was always really nice to me, and because of that, I liked him a lot. He made my time tutoring in Ferguson really enjoyable so I went really frequently so I could hang out with him. He was so smart, and in high school, I wished my teachers would one day talk as highly of me one day as they all did about Joe: everyone knew him to be hardworking and intelligent but also very fun to be around. My deepest condolences to your family and he will be missed dearly.

The last time I was with Joe was when I brought him to a cubs game with me last summer. I remember we had so much fun, and he insisted on buying the more expensive nachos that came in a cubs baseball helmet. He never failed to make me laugh or keep a smile on my face. I will never forget his kind, loving spirit, and he will be dearly missed.
