Trigg, Joseph Edward
former Chairman and CEO of Potter Electric Signal Co., passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022. He was (87) years old. He was the son of Dr. Joseph F. Trigg and Rita Potter Trigg of St. Louis. He graduated from St. Louis Country Day School in 1954 and achieved all-metro honors in football. He was a member of the school's inaugural hall of fame class in 1967 for football and track and had his football number retired by the school. Mr. Trigg attended Colgate University and Washington University in St. Louis and majored in Political Science. He served in the Missouri Air National Guard from 1958-1964 and was stationed in Europe during the Berlin Wall crisis. In 1958, he began his long tenure with Potter Electric Signal Co., which was founded by his grandfather, Charles Edward Potter in 1898. He progressed through the company in various roles in sales, operations and manufacturing management during his time there and served on various industry committees. After celebrating the company's 100th anniversary of its founding, he retired in 1998.
He is survived by Gail Phelps Steiner Trigg who he was married to for 63 years. They began their relationship after a debutante party at the Old Barn Inn in St. Albans, MO. He is also survived by his daughter, Margaret Waterbury (Jackson) and his son, Joseph Trigg, Jr. (Ann), both of St. Louis, along with four grandchildren, Christopher Waterbury (Krissy), Lauren Turley (Landon), Brian Trigg (Madison), Katie Bonastia (Joseph), and two great-grandchildren, Mason Waterbury and Lillian Turley.
Funeral arrangements are private and will be handled by Lupton Chapel (www.luptonchapel.com).
