Joyce Jacobs Obituary

Jacobs, Joyce C.

January 3, 2025

Joyce Levine Jacobs of St. Louis died peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025. Joyce is survived by her three sons, Robert L. (Emily) Rosenfeld, Jr. and Thomas P. Rosenfeld of St. Louis, and Michael A. (Bettina) Rosenfeld of Altadena, CA, by six grandchildren, Louis Rosenfeld of St. Louis, Will Rosenfeld of Los Angeles, CA, Jeremy Smith, of Washington, D.C., Theo and Max Rosenfeld of Los Angeles and Abby Rosenfeld of St. Louis, by her sister Barbara Meyers of Chicago, by her former step-children Linda, Julie and Michael Jacobs, by her companion Don Oglander, by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and by her beloved dog, Dude.

Born on October 14, 1932, in Louisville, KY, to Isadore and Evelyn Levine, Joyce was a 1954 graduate of the University of Missouri, where she received a BA in Journalism and was a proud Tiger Cheerleader. Later, in 1984, Joyce earned her Masters in Liberal Arts from Washington University. Joyce was an avid reader, writer and dog lover, taught English to Russian immigrants, was a Board Member at the Animal Protective Association, and was a devoted fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Louisville Cardinals basketball. From 1999 to 2022, Joyce primarily lived on Sanibel Island, FL, where she had many friends and was a 22 year volunteer at the front desk of the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge.

Above all else, Joyce was devoted to her sons and grandchildren, spending most of her adult life reading to them, monitoring homework, volunteering as an Elementary School Nurse, and attending their various school activities, including football, basketball, baseball, wrestling and hockey games. Whatever the outcome, Joyce was an energized, unruffled, positive force, always with a smile, and a wonderful sense of humor.

Joyce will be missed.

Visitation Sunday, January 12th 10:00 at BERGER MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 9430 Olive Blvd followed by funeral service at 10:30. Interment follows at United Hebrew Cemetery. The love of dogs has always been a shared love of Joyce and myself. She would joke and call me the dog whispere as I could handle Scruffy! Anyone who knew Scruffy would understand this ! David and I will miss Joyce and Don greatly. We miss little Dude. Dude and David had a special connection. We send much love to all who will miss our dear friend. Love from Ft. Myers,

I loved her enthusiastic and spirited personality. She was my sister Doris' roommate at Mizzou. Her sister, Bobby Levine (Meyer)was my roommate , also at the AEPhi sorority at Mizzou after our big sisters' graduated. Joyce seemed to be fully charged and ready to laugh. I have a terrific memory of her.

Dear Joyce, my only sibling. You were the best big sister! From our youth learning the trees in Tyler Park with Mom to collecting wood for breakfast bonfires on the South Haven Beach. Sat. movies where I'd fall asleep & you'd tell me all I missed on our drive to Sun. School with Daddy. The only years we lived together, except for one at Mizzou.
You were our AEPhi PledgeMother. Then suddenly we were wives, mothers, grandmoms and lived in
many places...but never the same ones. Wish we could make-up those years; hopefully in our next
chapter. My girls had such fun with you! Me,too!
We'll have a happy "Family Reunion" ... ! Dude will be there, also. Much love, Barbara
