Kevin McInnis Obituary

McInnis, Fr. Kevin died at 3:45 a.m., June 27, of complications from pneumonia. Born in St. Louis in 1929, his home was St. Theresa of Avila. He entered the Priests of the Sacred Heart in 1949 and was ordained both to the diaconate and the priesthood in 1957 by Archbishop Albert Meyer of Milwaukee. He did his seminary training at Sacred Heart Monastery (now Sacred Heart School of Theology) in Hales Corners, WI. He was assigned to work in parishes in Northern Mississippi from 1957-1962. A missionary in South Africa from 1963-1971, Fr. Kevin loved his ministry in De Aar, and in retirement, returned to the country to visit and do help-out ministry. In the United States, Fr. Kevin did parish and chaplain ministry around the country. His first assignment after South Africa was at St. Cecilia parish in San Antonio. A year later, he was at Sacred Heart Seminary in Victorville, CA, where he remained until 1975. From 1975-1980, he was at St. Joseph parish in Holly Springs, MS. After that, he headed north to Memphis, where he was a chaplain at St. Francis Hospital. In 1987, he moved to Chamberlain, SD, where he was superior of the SCJ community at St. Joseph's Indian School. From 1989-1992, he ministered on the Cheyenne River Reservation. He came to Hales Corners in 1993, where he did a variety of ministries, including, once again, hospital chaplaincy. In 2000, he retired and moved to Province's Senior Community in Pinellas Park, FL. Fr. Kevin enjoyed many hobbies, including ceramics, candle-making, stained glass work, swimming, music and reading. Health needs necessitated that Fr. Kevin had to move to nursing care several years ago. A member of the Villa Maria community, he had residence at St. Camillos Retirement Center in Milwaukee for the past several years.Services: The wake for Fr. Kevin will be at Sacred Heart Monastery on Sunday, July 1 at 7 p.m. and the Mass will be on Monday, July 2 at 10:30 a.m.

Father McInnis was such a sweet & dear friend when we worked together @ St. Francis Hospital. He was such a genuine Child of God & we were the fortunate ones to have shared our time with him. He will always have a special place in our hearts.
Farewell for now my friend, we love you.
