Lou was one of the really great guys. He was a mentor as well as a friend. It was Lou that was my sponsor for my Eagle Scout Dinner as well as a lifelong friend.
Everyone could always count on Lou to be there to lend a hand in whatever needed to be done. He always had a smile to share & a joke or story to tell.
For many years now, Lou would ask if I still had that stabbing pain in my eye. You see, back in 1980, he had stopped by the house and saw me drinking iced tea out of a glass with the tea stirrer still in the glass. Lou thought I would poke my eye out, but saw the humor in the situation. He got quite a chuckle out of that & never forgot about it. He ribbed me about it every time we met.
Back in 1978, Lou asked me if I had the recipe for ice cubes. He told me that his recipe had been handed down from generation to generation and he was heart broken that he had lost his copy of the family ice cube recipe. Each time we met, I would ask him if he ever found it. Lou said he never did. He would pause and then chuckle about it.
I can't say that I ever heard him complain. Lou was always full of ideas for solving anything that needed a hand. That was just Lou's way.
Yes, Lou was a great jokester, story teller, mentor and friend. I'm sure he is up in heaven right now shooting the breeze with other scouters & friends who have gone before him. He will certainly be missed.
Joyce, you are in my thoughts & prayers!

Lou was a great man and a wonderful Papa & friend to Amanda & Connor. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. He has been a great influence and role model in their lives and I am thankful that he was such a big part of their lives.

Hello, my name is Andrew Jefferson. I am an alumni of SIU-E and former student of Mr. Louis Bobka (1983-85). I will be forever indebted to him for assisting me in obtaining a job with the USACE while I was attending SIU-E. Mr. Bobka was a man who really took a genuine interest in his students. Because of his compasion and willingness to reach out and help, I will never forget him. May God bless you all is my prayer.
