Like Howard R., I owe so much to Margie. She hired me right out of graduate school as an adjunct faculty member for the sociology program--she appreciated my community volunteer record, liked my politics, and trusted that someone with no teaching experience but with a love of students and the discipline would be able to negotiate the community college classroom. She and Marcy McMurphy generously opened up their files to me and never stopped mentoring me or modeling how to become a better teacher. Eventually, I became a full-time colleague and among other things, was able to pay it forward to LaRhonda Wilson, whom Margie loved like a daughter--another in a long line of Margie mentees. Her friendship and trust in me and in my abilities are why (and how) I'm still working in higher education. I'm so grateful to have known her. Love and peace to her family members and friends at this time, and always.

When I became associated with St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley Margie became my unofficial mentor! She helped me navigate working in an academic system. She was a wonderful conversationalist, had a great sense of humor, and was a true scholar's scholar. She put her heart and soul into teaching and truly cared about her students. She will be missed but never forgotten.
