Marjorie Harwood Obituary

Harwood, Marjorie R. age 90, Sunday, October 2, 2011. Wife of late Marvin Harwood; mother of Melinda (John) Baum, Alexandra (Ron) Weiss and Kevi Harwood; son Charles (Ronni) Harwood; grandmother of Ginny Weiss and Cia Harwood. Marjorie enjoyed a lifetime of horses and dogs. Nationally recognized, she gave unselfishly of her time to a variety of equine disciplines and organizations, including Bridlespur Hunt Club, Humane Society of Missouri, United States Pony Clubs, United States Eventing Association, United States Equestrian Federation, Missouri Horse Shows Association, 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival & Queeny Park Equestrian Events. Services: Memorial service and reception, celebrating her life, at 1:30 pm, Sunday, Oct 30 at the family home. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Missouri, 1201 Macklind Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110; or a charity of choice.

Marjorie was an active part of the St. Louis equestrian community for over 60 years.

Member of Bridlespur Hunt Club for over 50 years, hunting for 17 of them on her beloved bay Thoroughbred, “My Turn�. Marjorie received her colors in 1966 and volunteered in various capacities over the years.

Founding member of Queeny Park Equestrian Events (QPEE), Marjorie served as Secretary for over 25 years, coordinated the Hunter Paces and acted as the Horse Trials secretary for as many years.

Registered United States Equestrian Federation Steward for 30+ years. The USEF awarded her the prestigious Pegasus Medal of Honor for exhibiting outstanding service to horses and sport in 2007.

United States Pony Clubs bestowed the honor of Pony Club Legend for over 30 years of volunteerism in 2004. Missouri Horse Shows Association presented her with Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. She received the United States Eventing Association Governors Cup for significant contributions to the sport of eventing in 1998. Marjorie was inducted into the National Horse Show Hall of Fame in 1996.

Board Member, Humane Society of Missouri during formation of the Society's Packwood Long Meadow Ranch, of which she remained a vigorous supporter.
