Mary Dooling Obituary

Dooling, Mary V. For 56 years, her Irish eyes smiled brightly. Born on March 9, 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska, Mary Virginia Dooling died from complications of cancer treatment on November 25, 2008 in Saint Louis, Missouri. She showered love and laughter onto the multitudes, including her devoted husband, Hermann C. Witte, her daughter and joy, Caitlin C. Witte, and her huge Irish clan: Mary V. Dooling (mother), Robert J. Dooling (father, deceased), Robert J. and Lisbeth T. Dooling (grandparents, deceased), Joseph J. and Hazel C. Hartnett (grandparents, deceased), Eleanor L. Hurd (aunt), 8 brothers and sisters - Robert J. Dooling, James M. Dooling, Richard P. Dooling, Teresa A. Dooling, Terrence J. Dooling, Timothy E. Dooling, Kevin F. Dooling, Colleen Dooling Ball - 14 nieces and nephews, and 9 cousins. Mary was an avid genealogist, family folklorist, and mastermind of enormous reunions in diverse venues, from the beaches of North Carolina, to Zion National Park and Kripalu. She nurtured her family with affection, fervent interest in their individual activities, good humor, and superb cooking. Mary received her R.N. degree from the College of Saint Mary and her M.A. in nursing from Creighton University. She worked for the Visiting Nurses Association in Omaha, and later moved to Saint Louis, where she launched Pedi Health Works, a consulting business focused on pediatric public health issues. She was an active member of the Missouri Nurses Association (Third District) and the American Public Health Association. Mary's enthusiasm, compassion, and generosity inspired her nursing career and won her a vast network of close friends. Her heart filled every room. I first Mary several years ago when she came in to our facility for physical therapy, we immediately connected, she always spoke with such cheer and happiness even in her darkness moments. She would tell me stories of her and her daughter spending endless hours together. After she finished therapy, Mary continued to see us for pain management with acupuncture/massage/therapy. Mary was such a blessing to have known and my prayers and thoughts go out to the entire family, may God bless you all.
