Michael Pratl Obituary

Pratl, Michael John

Born in East St. Louis, Illinois December 27, 1932. Died at home peacefully in the arms of Our Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Mike was the beloved husband of Suzanne Richeda Pratl (nee Jolley) for 24 years and the late Barbara Pratl (nee Smith); loving father of Michael S. Pratl, Clare M. Pratl (Darrel) Mueller and the late John K. Pratl; dear brother of Frank (Judy) Pratl; loving stepfather of Betsy Richeda (Tom) McMahon, Matthew Richeda (Sydney) and Emily Richeda (Justin) Garbaccio. Grandpa of Brian Mueller, Pop P. of Liza McMahon, Nico (Elsie) and Speedy Richeda, Isabel and Maggie Garbaccio. Intellectually curious, and blessed with a razor-sharp memory and wit, Mike achieved ambitious goals with gratitude and respect for his roots. His life focused on his family, many friends, both old and new, and centered on his deep Catholic faith. He loved his country and proudly served in the United States Navy. Mike and Suzanne enjoyed traveling through Europe and cruising in the Caribbean. They often celebrated life with family and friends at St. Louis' many great restaurants. Mike prioritized a very special relationship with oldest grandson Brian and along with his five younger grandchildren, they were the joy of his life.

Dear Claire and the rest of Mike’s family, I’m so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. He was our next door neighbor on Farmers Mill Lane in Chesterfield for many years. My kids and I will always remember his kind, friendly and happy nature. Whenever I think of Mike it’s always of him suntanned, chipping golf balls in the front yard before dinner. Rest in peace, Mike.

Poppy was not my grandfather by blood, but he treated my brother, cousins, and me as if we were. He never failed to make us laugh, and embodied what it means to be free. I am so grateful for his presence in my life, and I know he is cheering us on from heaven. I love you and will miss you, Poppy.

Despite being left-handed, Mike was a terrific guy! His wry sense of humor always brought a smile and often food for thought. An old friend and golf buddy, he will be missed. With sympathy and love from Rob and Barb

Mike was my golf buddy for many years and part of our same 4 foursome at least 25 years. We played 3 to 4 times per week, and weather seldom interrupted our game. Most of our rounds we partnered, and as I remembered it, we won more often than not. Hit um straight up their big guy, and hopefully you won’t have to look for any lost balls.
