Nancy Sterr Obituary

Sterr, Nancy

(DeHaven) 83, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on October 24, 2021 due to natural causes. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of the late Carl Sterr of 52 years. Loving mother of Steven, Katie (Peter) Mork, Julie (Kurt) Yap, Barbara Jean, Mary Beth (Rob) Albian, Carla (Paul) Markert, and Chris (Adam) Walsh. Nancy cherished her 13 beautiful grandchildren, Maddie and Nick Mork, Megan and Cortney Yap, Mia, Conor, Sam and Mary Claire Albian, Allison Markert, Jack, Anna, Kate, and Meg Walsh. Dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

A native of Chicago, Nancy and Carl moved to St. Louis in 1963. While raising her family, Nancy earned her master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education. She successfully created and implemented ECSE services for the Affton-Lindbergh School District, where she worked for over 20 years. With her trademark laugh and witty personality, she captured the hearts of many, young and old. There wasn't a problem that couldn't be solved over a Bud Light.

Dear Entire Sterr Family,
I always have had so much love and respect for you all. I was blessed to have my parents select Harvey and Evie as my God-parents and felt so much love for Carl and Nancy as Carl was my dad's (Gordon) best man, and like a brother to my dad. I still love looking at their wedding pictures and seeing Carlton with my mom and dad on their big day! As for Nancy...well...she was a true gem. The times we were together for family reunions indeed she always was the "straw that stirred" and I for sure will remember her laugh. She and Carlton were always so attentive to me with conversation and interest in my life. Such a lovely gift I will cherish remembering them both giving me their undivided attention and unconditional love. I will miss her and Carl very much, but will keep them always in my heart and prayers.
Love to all.

Dear Sterr Family, Both your parents were wonderful people. I did not know your mom was a Special Education teacher. Besides her beautiful smile and positive attitude, perhaps there was an additional undercurrent to her approach to life by understanding special education needs. I returned to the special education classroom after selling the cleaners. Now I have an extra connection to your mom. Raising 7 children required loads of patience!
Working with Katie at the cleaners showed me up close and personal what great parents you all had.
Many prayers from all the Uxa's. Ruth

You may or may not be aware that during the early years of the 2000s your Mom faithfully volunteered each week at the Archdiocesan Respect Life office. I knew her casually through Mary Queen of Peace but since none of our children shared a mutual year in the school, I really only came to know her through her dedication and support of the Church's pro-life work. It was so delightful to see Nancy each week and to share in the endless organization and busywork of so many of the pro-life projects and programs. We always reminded her that "when you're in it for Life, you're in it for Life."
May she rest in peace. HEB 6:10
