I was deeply saddened to hear about Nick's passing. I attended both grade school and high school with him. He was a man that stood up for what he believed to be right. He will be dearly missed.

Nick was always the good looking older friend of my brother, Scott's. Nick was always so nice to me and my friends. He was such a neat guy and will be incredibly missed!!

Nick had a heart of gold. When it came to teaching, he was guided by the belief that his talents and knowledge were gifts to help others. He was so committed to helping his students discover the best in themselves.
He had a great singing voice, and he always had the best stories about blues music to share.
I am really going to miss seeing him around the neighborhood with Jackson in their super hero costumes.
Nick- you are missed by many because you gave so much and brought so much joy to everyone you encountered. Thank you for everything you taught me.

I had the opportunity of knowing Nick for 30 years. What a great friend, father, and teacher. He was always a great friend to talk with and to just be with. He will obviously be missed by many and his influences and guidance will be missed by many students in the years to come. Nick absolutely loved his job and committed everything he had to his students. It is nice to see former students reach out and acknowledge the genuine care Nick had for them and to demonstrate what a great person he really was. We will miss you Detes. Much love brother.

Mr. Detering was one of the best teachers i believe North Tech has ever had ! Not only was he my 10th grade english teacher , he was also my brothers . He is a hard working teacher that cared more about student then work . He had a really good heart and its sad that he's gone . North Tech will miss you Detering . RIP

Mr. Detering was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He was the one teacher who cared about the students first before the work. He was actually in it for the students. He always inspired me to do better and to do everything to my fullest potential. One of the greatest influences I've had in my life. He will truly be missed by so many. RIP<3

Mr. Detering was a good man. He was always there for the students when they needed help or even just a shoulder. I had him as an English teacher my junior year and my senior year I had him as a principal. I would come to him and just talk to him about things that were going on in my life. I felt like I could connect with him better than anyone else in the school. When I was going through a lot with my health he was there for me by my side. He will truly be missed. RIP Mr. Detering <3
