Nicholas Polydoris Obituary

Polydoris, Nicholas George age 86, October 6, 2016. Beloved husband of the late Gloria Ann Polydoris; fond father of Steven, Janet (Ron) Etchie, Lynn (James) George, Susan (Dale) Hall and the late Nancy (the late Erik) Knuti; loving papou of Lisa, Diane, Kari, John; Jennifer; Michael, Matthew, Albert; Jessica and Joe; son of the late George and the late Annetta (Karigianos) Polydoris; brother of Louis (Lin) Polydoris and the late Stuart (Eva) Polydoris; dearest cousin of Pola (George) Alexopoulous, Litsa (Sam) Stamatis and Dimitra and Spiro; loving uncle of Lia, Golfo, Gergory and many other nieces and nephews; brother in law to Becky and John Skordalos, Mark Mamalakis and Tom Skordalos. We lost out sweet 86 years old father, our strong Greek father was everything to us. Dad loved his wife and us five kids. Gloria, his wife of 63 years, was everything to him. Mom modeled and taught 3rd grade. Nick graduated from Northwestern University as an Electrical Engineer. He started his own business which has been in business for 59 years ENM Company Counting Instruments. A small engineering plant. Dad helped his Greek mom learn English after he lost his father when he was 14 years old. He took on the role of the man of the house for his two younger brothers, Stuart and Louie. Nicholas loved his kids, four girls and one son. Steven, the oldest was his favorite and only son. They had a special guy bond and loved and respected each other. Janet the oldest girl, helped mom and dad with the rest of us younger kids. Janet was the great piano player of the house and dad loved it when she played. Lynn the middle child was very close to dad. Dad adored his Lynn. Lynn paved the way for us younger kids and taught us how to drive as teenagers. Dad and Lynn were close to the end. I, Susan am the second to the youngest, dad used to call me his actress and he used to say that, I couldn't earn a living suntanning. Dad and I had a very close rapport. Nancy, the baby of the family had a special relationship with dad. He worried about Nancy because she had Scoliosis and was very protective of her because she had to have serious back surgery as a young teenager. Dad loved raw garlic and was the author of two books, one he wrote with Dr. Orville Green called Garlic and the other one he started on last summer that we hope to finish. He was a fan of the garlic press and took a teaspoon of olive oil a day. Dad instilled a great work ethic in us. He was a strong father and was respected in the community. He was an avid pilot, who loved to fly. He used to fly small planes around Sanibel Island where we vacationed as kids and we would wait outside for him. He would tip his wings as he flew by us. Nick and Gloria were great tennis players and loved by all their Old Willow friends! They were longtime members of the Old Willow Club. He was a longtime member of The Michigan Shores Club and had many friends there. Dad adored his grandkids, he loved them dearly, as they loved their Papou! He loved hearing about their jobs and school and he always had the best advice. We spent Spring break in Palm Desert all together for many years. Mom and dad both loved their caregiver Connie. She took care of both of them for many years. Connie became part of the family, and they loved all the caregivers. We are at peace that dad is now with mom and Nancy, his baby daughter in heaven. Dad was the patriarch of the family. We will honor him and live by what he taught us! Rest in Peace Dad! We love you! Service and interment private. Info: 847 675-1990 or www.donnellanfuneral.com.

Sue-

It has been years since we met at WIU but I think of you often. I just tried to find you and saw you lost your parents. I am so sorry! I will always remember them and your close family bond. I will never forget all the fun we had being Greek, Bayliss, our fun nights at TC's and seeing who could get "tanner". If you ever see this and can give me a call I would love to hear from you.

Oh, how well we remember that Garlic Man here at Silver Sands Racquet Club. Nick added so much to the character of this Club....in fact, he was probably the biggest character of all who was loved by all. His story telling is well remembered.
Always with a smile, he greeted everyone as his best friend. You will be missed. We both are privileged to have been a friend of his.

Love, Gene and Dick Lueck

August, Chamberlain and I want to send our deepest sympathy, and condolences to the Polydoris Family. Nick was always very kind, welcoming, and inclusive to my boys and I. We enjoyed listening to Nick's amazing stories that were always filled with either a life lesson, a heart warming story, or of some great adventure, a great joke, and they made you smile, or laugh out loud. Keeping your family in our prayers during this difficult time. Sending lots of Love, Peggy, August and Chamberlain Coffee
