Pete took me under his golf wing for the Chicago Ocean Marine Association golf outing for years beginning in the mid 1990's. I so enjoyed his company, the no golf lessons on the golf course lessons, and could call him for his maritime expertise. Pete, you will truly be missed.

Pete and I were first cousins. After Uncle Ernest passed far too early in life, my dad drove to Mo. to visit with Aunt Louise, Pete, Marea and Martha many summers for a week or two at a time, in Webster Grove. Dad would help catch up on a few household chores (like painting the very large home!) and enlisted me to help when I was only a youngster. Dad felt a strong family obligation to visit his sis and help however he could as the three Merrill kids were growing up. My sister Linda, brother Steve and I have special memories of the visits. Peter was about 5 years older than I and remember when he asked me to tag along at a pickup basketball game with his friends. I was pretty young and impressionable and have never forgotten how he took his cousins under his wing when we visited. When our parents (Chuck and Jeannie) passed in 2002 and 2004, you guessed it, Pete made the trip to Ohio both times to represent the Merrill side of the family. He was always fun to be around and I enjoyed talking with him on occasion about the inland marine business. He will be missed and the Ohio connection of the DeLawder family extends our sincere condolences to Joyce, Alex, Kristen and family. Blessings to all.

I'm saddened to learn of Pete's passing, I've worked with Pete on many appraisals over the years and recall a very good steak dinner in the St Louis area several years ago. He was always kind, helpful, and a knowledgeable professional that was always willing to chat about a vessel, beer / wine, the industry, and more. he will be missed by his business associates.

I met Pete in 1985, was immediately impressed by him, and we have remained friends until this very sad day. He was a pillar of the Marine business, a personality beyond description, and a devoted family man. Pete never tired of talking about Joyce and the kids. He truly made doing business fun.
