Ralph Torrence Obituary

Torrence, Ralph F. Ralph Frederick Torrence baptized into the hope of Christ's Resurrection on May 12, 2015 at the age of 92. Born in St. Louis, Mo to Dr. Charl and Ida (Beckerle) Torrence. Beloved husband of the late Mary Jane Janie LePage. Cherished father of Dr. Ralph J. (Carolyn Bechler) Torrence, Hon. John M. (Julie Hill) Torrence, and Mary Ellen (Don) Patton. Loving Bumpy to Justin (Cathy), Brenna (Chris), Erin, Caitlin, Molly, Devon, Brian, Joe, Mary Kate & Jack. Dear Brother of Suzanne Anthony and Brother-in-law to Delores Grate, Dorothy Torrence and Audrey Torrence. Our dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin and dear friend to many. Ralph served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from night school at St. Louis University. He spent his career as a salesman for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Ralph, a lifelong resident of St. Louis, was a humble man who lived by the motto if you work hard and do the right things, good things will happen to you. Ralph's life was guided by his faith. He lived a life of compassionate service and kindness toward all. Ralph truly never met a stranger. He would tell you that a smile and a kind word cost nothing, but could make someone's day better. He cherished his family above all, and lived a life of gratitude for all that came his way. His positive attitude was contagious, and it spread wherever he went. Services: Visitation Sunday 4-8 PM, at JOHN L. ZIEGENHEIN & SONS (South County) 4830 Lemay Ferry Road. Funeral Monday 9:30 AM at the funeral home to Assumption Catholic Church, 4725 Mattis Road. St. Louis, Mo. (63128) for Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment J.B. National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you raise your glass in a toast to Ralph and a life well lived.

My dad, Earl John Konersman, was a childhood friend and grade school classmate of Ralph's. They reconnected in later years, again enjoying conversations and laughs.

I just heard of my uncle Ralph's passing. My deepest symphaties to my cousins Ralph, John , and Mary Ellen and most of all my Aunt Suzzie. I have relived some fond memories in the last few hours of the times our families were able to overcome the miles apart and get together. Uncle Ralph was always the rock of those Torrence boys. Ralph was the last of the four boys. We lost the other three way to early but they are all back together now. I can hear grandma telling Uncle Ralph to wipe his feet cause he is leaving footprints on her cloud! Due to work, I will be unable to attend the services, but be assured everyone in the Torrence/ Bekerly families will be on my mind, in my heart, and in my prayers!

Uncle Ralph was a great man. He lit any room up that he entered. He had the Torrence charisma and loved his family dearly. I will cherish the memories of him and Aunt Jane singing with my Mom and Dad at the player piano at our many family parties when we were growing up. My thoughts, prayers, and love are sent to each of my cousins and their children.

Love and sympathies,
Patricia Torrence Clifton and family.
