Raymond Pokoski Obituary

Pokoski, Raymond Anthony

Entered eternal life Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the age of 94, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, June; his children Anne (Ian Cohen), Charles (Susan Matre), Stephen (Monica), Katherine (Jeffrey) Eyestone, and Alex (Amy Arthur); 10 grandchildren, and one brother, John, of Newmarket, New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by his parents Genevieve (Moscicki) and Anthony Pokoski. Ray was born in St. Louis and attended McBride High School. He enlisted in the Marines upon graduation in 1945 and later completed his bachelor's degree at Washington University on the GI Bill. He and June raised their family in Manchester, MO where they were active members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. After his retirement from McDonnell Douglas, he and June joined the Peace Corps and served in Paraguay for two years. They later moved to Camden, Maine, where they enjoyed small-town life for more than 20 years and family visits every summer. They returned to St. Louis in late 2019. Ray was an avid fisherman and a lifelong Cardinals fan. He will be remembered as a kind, humble man of strong faith and character, with few needs other than his family and Church. We loved him, and he loved us all.

Services: Visitation and funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Valley Park, beginning at 9 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be private at Jefferson Barracks.
